Abstract

An electricity generation system is housed within a cavity below a road surface, and is driven by mechanical energy from vehicles passing there over. The system may comprise a cover plate arranged to protrude above the road surface, a toothed shaft (rack) extending downwards from the cover plate and engaging with cog wheel (pinion gear) connected to a dynamo. When a vehicle passes over the cover plate it is pushed vertically downwards and the toothed shaft causes the cog wheel to rotate and drive the dynamo. Springs are provided to return the cover plate to its protruding position when the force of the vehicle has been relieved. The cover plate may be sealed to the road surface.

Description

TITLE:
GENERATOR
BACKGROUND:
THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A
NEW KIND OF GENERATOR PRODUCING CLEAN
RECYCLED ENERGY USING MECHANICAL POWER
DERiVED FROM THE PASSAGE OF WHEELED
VEHICLES ALONG ROAD SURFACES BENEATH
WHICH THE GENERATOR IS INSTALLED, ENABLING
HIGHWAY AUTHORITIES TO FEED THE ELECTRIC
CURRENT SO GENERATED INTO THE MAiNS ELECTRiCITY GRID IN RETURN FOR
NEGOTIATED REMUNERATION FROM THE RELEVANT
UTILITIES TO REFLECT THE CONSEQUENT
SAVINGS IN ELECTRICITY GENERATED BY
POWER STATIONS CONSUMING FOSSIL FUELS.
DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION:
THE ESSENTIAL FEATURES OF MY
INVENTION ARE AS FOLLOWS:-THE WORKING ELEMENTS ARE FniD iNTO A WAThRTIGj CONTAINER SUFFICiENTLY ROBUST AND
DURABLE TO BE SUITABLE FOR INSTALLATION
BELOW THE SURFACE OF A ROADWAY WFFH ITS
TOP COVER PLATE PROTRUDING APPROX. S CMS ABOVE THE SURFACE, ENCLOSED ON EACH SIDE
BY A SEAL OF RUBBER OR OTHER SUITABLE
MATERIAL, THE OUTER EDGES OF WHICH ARE ANGLED TO OBVIATE DISTURBANCE TO TRAFFIC.
AN ARRANGEMENT OF LIPS OR LEDGES
PROJECTING INWARJ) FROM TUE CONTAINER WALLS PERMITS VERTIC,4L MOVEMENT OF THE COVER PLATE AMOUNTiNG TO S CMS PLUS PLATE THICKNESS
FIXED TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE PLATE
IS A VERTICALLY POSITIONED, TOOTHED SHAFT,
THE TEETH OF WHICH ARE ALIGNED TO
MAINT.j CONTACT WITH A COGWHEEL OR
COMBINATION OF GEAR WHEELS DESIGNED TO
DRIVE A CONNECTED DYNAMO AT ITS OPTIMUM
SPEED AS THE SHAFT DESCENDS WHEN THE
PLATE IS DEPRESSED BY THE WHEEL OF A
VEHICLE.
WHEN DOWNW PRESSURE IS RELIEVED
THE COVER PLATE AND SHAFT ARE FORCED BACK
UPWARDS TOWARD THEIR UPPER LOCATION BY
SPRING(S) OF APPROPRIATE STRENGTH, ALIO WING THE DYNAMOTO "FREE WHEEL "MEANWHILE.
ESSENTIAL LUBRICATION OF SHAFT AND
GEARWHEEL(S) MAY BE EFFECTED AUTOMATICALLY
USING A SUMP SYSTEM WHEREBY THE SHAFT
IS LUBRICATED AUTOMATICAIJJ WITH EACH
OPERATIONAL CYCLE.
A BATTERY OF SEVERAL GENERATORS
MAY BE INSTALLED IN ONE OR MORE ROWS
ACROSS A TRAFFIC LANE, IN WHICH CASE A
COMPLETE ROW MAY BE ACTIVATED IN
UNISON BY THE DEPRESSION OF A SHARED
COVER PLATE.
ELECTRIC CURRENT PRODUCED BY THE
DYNAMOS IS FED BY CABLE (VIA A DC/AC INVERTER IF NECESSARY) INTO THE MAINS SUPPLY GRID.
THE CURRENT SUPPLIED IS METERED TO
ENABLE A HIGHWAY AUTHORITY OR OWNER TO BE
APPROPRIATELY REMUNERATED BY THE REL8/ANT UTILITY.
