Abstract

A device for raising and lowering a toilet seat and/or lid (4) comprises a pedal (1) fixed near to the toilet in a position that can be pressed by the user's foot. The pedal is connected to a cranked lever (2) and connecting rod (3) in such a way that pressing of the pedal raises the lid and seat of the toilet.

Description

Title: Toilet seat device.
Background:
In domestic situations the toilet is used by both genders and therefore; the toilet seat has to be raised and lowered for the different sexes when used. When in public situations the genders have different toilets usually. However, the male user still has to raise the lid and seat. The person involved in raising or lowering the seat generally has to touch the seat and it is usually not the cleanest or most hygienic of items leading you to spread germs and cross contaminate other items.
Statement of invention:
To overcome this issue, the present invention proposes a mechanical device that is has a pedal fixed near the toilet in a position that a standing male could comfortably stand to use the toilet and that can be pressed by the male user's foot. The pressing of the pedal would raise the lid and seat of the toilet meaning that the user does not have to touch the seat. When the user takes their foot off the pedal the seat and lid returns to the down position.
Detailed description:
A mechanical device that is has a pedal fixed near the toilet in a position that a standing male could comfortably stand to use the toilet and that can be pressed by the male user's foot. The pressing of the pedal would raise the lid and seat of the toilet meaning that the user does not have to touch the seat. When the user takes their foot off the pedal the seat and lid returns to the down position.
Specification:
Toilet hygiene This invention relates to a product used to lift a toilet lid and seat clear of the toilet.
In domestic situations the toilet is used by both genders and therefore the toilet seat has to be raised and lowered for the different sexes when used. When in public situations the genders have different toilets usually. However, the male user still has to raise the lid and seat. The person involved in raising or lowering the seat generally has to touch the seat and it is usually not the cleanest or most hygienic of items leading you to spread germs and cross-contaminate other items.
To overcome this issue, the present invention proposes a mechanical device that has a pedal fixed near the toilet in a position that a standing male could comfortably stand to use the toilet and that can be pressed by the male user's foot. The pressing of the pedal would raise the lid and seat of the toilet meaning that the user does not have to touch the seat. When the user takes their foot off the pedal the seat and lid returns to the down position.
Preferably, the device would have a way of ensuring the seat and lid do not slam back down, rather that they decelerate to the closed position.
The invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 shows the toilet and mechanical device. The foot pedal (I) is connected to a cranked lever (2). When the foot pedal (1) is pressed, the lever (2) turns, which pulls down the connecting rod (3).The connecting rod (3) is connected to the back of the toilet lid and seat (4). When the connecting rod (3) is pulled, the toilet lid and seat (4) will be raised. When pressure is released from the foot pedal (1) the process is reversed and the toilet seat and lid (4) will return to the down position.
Figure 2 shows the same device, from the front elevation.
Figure 3 shows the same device from the side elevation.
