Abstract
A mechanical pedal device which lifts up the toilet seat when downward pressure is applied by a foot on the pedal. The device comprises a pedal 1, a gearing, means for fixing the device to either the toilet brim or elsewhere, means for connecting the device to the toilet seat, a protective cover 4 encasing the gearing, a mechanism allowing only slow, controlled movement of the seat, a recoil system pushing the seat from its upright to the horizontal position, means for fixing the seat in, and releasing it from, the upright position, and an easy-release clip device 5 attaching seat-cover to seat. <IMAGE>
Description
PEDAL DEVICE FOR LIFTING UP TOILET SEATS
This invention relates to a mechanical pedal device which lifts up toilet seats.
Men are often required to lift up toilet seats by hand prior to urinating.This may be unhygenic and inconvenient.
This pedal device provides a means of lifting up the toilet seat simply by pressing down on the pedal with the foot,thus avoiding the need to use the hands.
According to the present invention there is provided a pedal device comprising a pedal,a gearing,means for fixing the device to either the toilet brim or elsewhere,means for connecting the device to the toilet seat,a cover encasing the gearing,a mechanism allowing only slow, controlled movement of the seat,a recoil system pushing the seat from its upright position to the horizontal position,means for reversibly fixing the seat in the upright position,and an easy-release device attaching seat-cover to seat.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows from the side,the toilet with the pedal device in place;
Figure 2 shows from above,the toilet with the pedal device in place;
Figure 3 shows from the side,the gearing in place,exposed after removal of the protective cover; and
Figure 4 shows from above,the gearing in place,exposed after removal of the protective cover.
Referring to the drawing,the pedal device comprises a pedal 1,and a gearing 2 which lifts up the toilet seat when activated by downwards pressure upon the pedal.The gearing is fixed to the toilet brin.,and connected by a lever 3 to the toilet seat.
In option : -A protective cover 4 encasing the gearing;
-A mechanism allowing only slow,controlled movement of the
seat (not shown);
-A coil device (not shown) providing recoil of the seat from
the upright to th horizontal position;
-An automatic type of latch (not shown),providing fixation
of the seat in the upright postion,releasable by pressing
doun upon the pedal a second tine;
-A ball-catch system 5 providing easily releasable fixation
of the seat-cover to the seat.
Claims (7)
1 A pedal device which lifts up toilet seats,comprising a pedal, a gearing, means for fixing the device to either the toilet brim or elsewhere,and means for connecting the device to the toilet seat.
2 A pedal device as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a mechanism allowing only slow,controlled movement of the seat,is provided.
3 A pedal device as claimed in Claim 2 wherein a mechanism allowing easily releasable fixation of the seat-cover to the seat,is provided.
4 A pedal device as claimed in Claim 3 wherein a recoil system which pushes the seat from its upright to the horizontal position,is provided.
5 A pedal device as claimed in Claim 4 wherein a mechanism allowing reversible fixation of the seat in the upright position,is provided.
6 A pedal device as claimed in any preceding clair:,whereIn a protective cover encasing the gearing,is provided.

Figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawing.
