Abstract

An LED module (2), mounted on the back of an all weather glove (5), contains one or more LED's (3) and houses a battery (4) to power them. An ON / OFF toggle switch (1) is mounted on the side of the forefinger of the glove (5), such that the wearer may operate it with their thumb. The LED's (3) may flash at a similar speed to a car indicator. The glove (5) may be either full finger length or half finger. The invention is a safety device which may be worn by cyclists to increase their visibility when turning; the glove (5) will be clearly visible to other traffic when the cyclist raises their arm in the normal way to indicate intention to turn.

Description

Specification

This invention relates to safety devices that are worn by a cyclist during cycling day or night.

When cycling on roads at night it is veiy hard to been seen by other road users. It is particularly hard to be seen when indicating to turn. If your desired mad to turn into is on the right hand side this can often lead to the need to cross lanes of traffic, which at night can be dangerous as visibility is limited.

This invention is designed to solve this. By using a pair of indicating gloves the cyclist can ride normally until he/she wishes to make a turn then simply press the button located on the forefinger with their thumb, The LED's begin to flash at a similar speed to that of a car indicator. They simply signal as nonnal by raising the corresponding arm out to one side, this allows the LED's to be visible by surrounding traffic. The LED's light up at a speed similar to that of a car indicator. These timed flashes not only signal that the cyclist wishes to turn but due to the familiar car like' way that they flash, they are a veiy familiar indicating signal to other road users.

The ON/OFF toggle switch located on the side of the forefinger allows the user to only use the indicators when desired. Turning them on when signalling and turning and off when the manoeuvre is complete.

The light unit will be small and lightweight and integral to the glove it is fitted to. The ON/OFF switch will be wired through the inside of the glove.

The invention will now be described solely by way of example and reference to accompanying drawings in which: I, In figure 1 The Indicating Glove, in profile, comprises of the all weather glove (5) which is the base that the LED Module (2) is attached to. The LED Module (2) is located on the top of the glove (5) and houses the series of LED's (3) the power supply (4) and the circuitry (6). These LED's are controlled by the ON/OFF toggle switch (1), which is located on the side of the forefinger operated by the thumb.

2, Figure 2 shows an aerial view of the indicating glove illustrating the position of the LED Module (2) on the top of the all weather glove (5) and the position of the ON/OFF toggle switch (1) 3, Figure 3 illustrates how the cyclist (6) would be seen using the Indicating glove (7) by a motorist following the cyclist.

4, Figure 4 shows the ON/OFF toggle switch (1) being activated by the users thumb.

This then completes the circuit (6) located within the Module (2) causing the LED's (3) to light up using the battery in the power source housing (4).

First Claim An On/Off controllable LED module mounted on the top of a glove to be used as an Indicator for cyclists, which is controlled by a switch located on the forefinger, powered by a small battery contained within the module.

Claims (1)

  1.
Claims 1 An ON/OFF controllable indicating unit mounted to the outside
of an all weather full-fmgered glove, controlled by a switch mounted on the side of the forefinger.

2 An ON/OFF controllable indicating unit according to claim 1 in which the glove only has half-length fingers.
