Abstract
DIRECTION INDICATING CYCLING GLOVES According to the present invention there is herein described a design of a combined glove and flashing indicator akin to the turn indicators on a powered vehicle. The invention comprises a flashing battery powered light with orange lens fitted to a cycling glove
Description
[1] Australia Patents Act 1990 Provisional Specification DIRECTION INDICATING CYCLING GLOVES The following statement is a full description of this invention.
[2] DIRECTION INDICATING CYCLING GLOVES PRIOR ART Visibility of cyclists to other road users has long been recognised as one of the main contributors to the safety of the cyclist. There are numerous devices such as lights, steady and flashing, fluorescent and reflective bright clothing and strips and coloured flags mounted on the cycle. None of these devices provides any indication of the intended direction of the cyclist. DESCRIPTION According to the present invention there is herein described a design of a combined glove and flashing indicator akin to the turn indicators on a powered vehicle. The invention comprises a flashing battery powered light with orange lens fitted to a cycling glove. The light may be fitted either with a manual on/off switch, a micro switch positioned on the glove such that it can be activated by the riders thumb or a motion detection switch which turns on the light when the hand is raised in to a vertical plane. The first of these modes would entail the lights on both hands being activated from when the rider starts his journey. When the hands are on the handlebars, these provide additional visibility to vehicles approaching from side roads. The second type of switch would allow the lights to be activated and deactivated by the rider at any time without interrupting the control of the bicycle. This would allow conservation of the batteries by activating the lights only in areas of high risk such as city centres and when the cyclist intends to turn. The third activation mode extends this battery conservation principle by switching on the lights only when the riders arm is extended sideways to indicate the intention to turn or change lanes.
[3] The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention which: Figure 1 is an isometric view of the bicycle turn indicator for the right hand. The left hand would be similar but opposite handed.
