Abstract
A glove fitted with flashing indicating units that are turned on via two switching contacts located on the forefinger 1 and thumb 2 of the glove which when pressed together complete a circuit and turn on the flashing indicating units. The units are lit by one or more LED's that are powered by a battery (1, Fig 4) that may be housed in the indicating units. The gloves allow a cyclist to be visible whilst performing hand signals. Preferably one of the flashing indicating units is fitted to the back of the gloves 4 and the other fitted to the front of the gloves 3. Preferably the units may have a pulse switch (4, Fig 4) and a transparent indicating cap.
Description
24 1 2055 Cycle gloves
Description
This invention relates to cycle indication gloves.
When cycling in the dark, it is essential that cyclist are seen by other road users. The use of conventional hand signals do not provide adequate visible indication at night or in other poorly lighted bad weather conditions.
This present invention proposes cycle indication gloves fitted with front and back flashing indicating units, which are powered by batteries. The indicating units are activated by means of forefinger and thumb contacts which are fitted to the gloves, being brought into contact with each other while making a hand signal, thus activating the light emitting diodes inside the indicator units front and back.
The cycle indication gloves when worn by a cyclist will ensure that motorist will have a highly visible and immediately recognizable perception of a manoeuvring cyclist in the dark, and in other poorly lighted bad weather conditions, whilst the cyclist still performs the correct hand signals for a cyclist.
The advantage over existing bicycle indication systems that the cycle indication gloves have, is in their portable light weight design, without any fixing or wiring to a bicycle, therefore eliminating any chance of theft or damage whilst the bicycle is left unattended.
Preferably, there is a left and right handed glove.
Preferably, the gloves have one flashing indicator unit fitted to the back of the gloves and one flashing indicator unit fitted to the front of the gloves.
Preferably, the gloves have contact buttons fitted to the forefingers of the gloves.
Preferably, the gloves have contact buttons fitted to the thumb's of the gloves.
Preferably, the indicating units are powered by batteries.
Preferably, the indicating units contain one or more light emitting diodes and a pulse switch circuit.
An example of the invention will now be described by referring to the accompanying drawings.
Figure]. shows a righthanded cycle indicator glove 5. with one indicator unit 3. fitted to the wrist area of the glove 5. and one indicator unit 4. fitted to the back hand area of the glove 5.
attached to the forefinger section of the glove 5. is a contact button I. which is connected to the indicator units 3. and 4. by means of suitable electrical wire. Attached to the thumb section of the glove 5.is a contact button 2. which is connected to the indicator units 3. and 4.
by means of suitable electrical wire. When a cyclist performs a gloved hand signal, the hand leaves the handle bar whereapon contact buttons l and 2. are brought together by using the thumb and forefinger, the circuits in the indicator units 3. and 4. are complete causing the indicator units 3. and 4. to flash in a manner analogous to that of a conventional vehicle. The correct hand signal is performed and when the manouvre is finnished, the cyclist disengages contact buttons 1. and 2. from each other, the circuits in the indicator units 3. and 4. is broken the indicator units 3. and 4. cease to flash whereapon the gloved hand can be returned back to the handle bar of the cycle.
Figure 2. shows a right handed indicator glove 5. palm upmost with one indicator unit 3.
located at the wrist area of the glove 5. Attached to the forefinger section of the glove 5. is a contact button 1. Attached to the thumb section of the glove 5. is a contact button 2.
Figure 3. shows a lefthanded indicator glove 5. with one indicator unit 4. located at the back hand area of the glove 5. Attached to the forefinger section of the glove 5. is a contact button 1. Attached to the thumb section of the glove 5. is a contact button 2.
Figure 4. shows an example of a proposed indicator unit. Batteries 1. provide power to the pulse switch circuit 4. which causes the light emitting diodes 5. to flash when the circuit is completed by connecting 2. and 3. which in turn are connected to the forefinger and thumb contact buttons on the glove by means of suitable electrical wiring.
Claims (7)
