Pressure-reducing valves.-A pressure-reducing valve particularly adapted for maintaining the fluid pressure in the train pipe of a fluid-pressure brake system has the main valve loaded by two springs so arranged that the valve regulates at two different rates of supply according to the pressure obtaining in the train pipe or other receptacle. The main valve has two ports 17, 18 adapted to co-operate with two ports 19, 20 in the seat so that the port 18 opens in advance of the port 17 and is directly coupled to an actuating piston 16. The piston is constantly loaded by a spring 11 and a second spring 12 arranged within the spring 11 bears against an abutment 13 slidably mounted on a pin 14 which abutment engages the piston 6 when the port 18 is slightly open. Fluid pressure is admitted to the back of the piston through a restricted orifice 23 and is exhausted, when the train-pipe pressure falls through an auxiliary control valve 5 actuated by a spring-loaded diaphragm 2 subject to trainpipe pressure. The two springs may be combined in a single spring having convolutions of different diameters.
