Description

I

FOAMING DEVICE IN A COFFEE MAKER

Cross-Reference to Related Application

The present invention claims priority of two CN Patent Applications No. 200620008271.2 and 200620008267.6 both filed on March 21, 2006, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference for all purposes.

Technical Field

The present invention relates to a coffee maker, particularly to a foaming device in a coffee maker.

Background of the Invention

Espresso coffee is generally extracted by way of steam pressure. In a coffee maker, pressurized steam is subjected to directly pass coffee powder and to penetrate through cell walls of the coffee powder instantaneously, so as to extract the inner essence from the coffee powder. Therefore, there floats a thin layer of coffee oil with foams on the surface of the outcome coffee, which is the source of the alluring aroma of the Espresso coffee. Moreover, foams may be generated when flowing coffee meets air and gets mixed with it. Generally, the more foams in the coffee, the better the taste.

As shown in Fig. 1, in a prior art coffee maker, an espresso coffee brewing accessory is loaded which includes an espresso coffee capsule 3 connected with the espresso water inlet 2, a filter plate 6 installed under the coffee capsule 3, a small pod cover I and a pressure limiting check valve consisting of a small pod seat 5, a discharge plug 8 with a spring 9 thereon and a discharge plug cover 10. Said water discharge plug 8 is installed under said filter plate 6, said plug cover 10 is installed at the water outlet, and a small pod sealing ring 7 is installed at the contact point between said filter plate 6 and said small pod seat 5. The guided control valve 11 is installed under the lower brewing chamber 13, and the small pod cover I is installed under the upper brewing chamber 4. Said pressure limiting check valve keeps the pressure within the brewing chamber at the range of 8 -10 BAR when brewing espresso coffee.

However, in the prior art coffee maker, the foams generated by the mixture of flowing coffee with air are of small quantity, which affects the taste of coffee due to shortage of foams.

Summary of the Invention

The object of the invention is to provide a foaming device in a coffee maker so as to make coffee with abundant foams and delicious taste.

The foaming device in a coffee maker according to the present invention comprises: a brewing chamber; a filter disposed inside the brewing chamber, dividing the brewing chamber into a top chamber and a lower chamber, wherein the top chamber is used for accommodating a coffee pod or coffee powder, and wherein the lower chamber is used for accommodating coffee having passed through the filter; ajet orifice disposed at a bottom of the lower chamber, whose aperture is small enough to maintain a pressure between 1 BAR and 11 BAR inside the brewing chamber; a diverter with a coffee outlet, which is disposed below the filter for collecting the coffee ejected out of the jet orifice and directing the coffee to flow out via the coffee outlet.

Wherein, the distance from the coffee outlet of the diverter to the filter is between 3 and 300 mm.

Wherein, the aperture of the jet orifice is between 0.4 and 1.0 mm.

Wherein, only one jet orifice is provided in the lower chamber.

Wherein, said foaming device further includes a barrier facing the coffee ejected from the jet orifice so as to direct the ejected coffee toward the diverter.

Wherein, the barrier is integrated with the lower chamber of the brewing chamber.

Wherein, said foaming device further includes a coffee passage downstream of the jet orifice.

Wherein, the coffee passage is integrated with the lower chamber of the brewing chamber.

Wherein, the diverter turns up at its brim, and the coffee outlet forms a diverering hole at the bottom of the diverter.

When brewing coffee with a coffee maker having a foaming device of the present invention, water is pumped into a boiler by a pump, then hot water from the boiler enters the top chamber of the brewing chamber, the coffee pod or coffee powder inside is immersed and brewed, and a pressurized chamber is formed. When the pressure reaches a certain value, coffee is filtered via the filter and is ejected out of the lower chamber of the brewing chamber via the jet orifice, forming scattering fog which mixes with air and forms coffee with foams. The coffee with foams is ejected to the barrier, then falls into the diverter, during which the coffee is further mixed with air and coffee with more abundant foams is generated. Finally, coffee flows out of the outlet of the diverter for drinking.

Either an Espresso coffee pod, a Sense coffee pod, a Drip coffee pod, a tea pod or coffee powder may be placed inside the top chamber of the brewing chamber according to desires.

Brief Description of the Drawing

Further features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description, in combination with the appended drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a Section view of the brewing chamber for Espresso of a prior art coffee maker.

Figure 2 is a section view of the foaming device in a coffee maker according to embodiment 1 of the present invention.

Figure 3 is a Section view of the foaming device in a coffee maker according to embodiment 2 of the present invention.

Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiment

Embodiment 1: As shown in Figure 2, in an example of the present invention, the foaming device includes ajet orifice 109 followed by a foaming mouth 101, a coffee passage 102 with an outlet port 107, an 0ring seal 103, a filter paper 104, a filter cup 105, a diverter 110, and a barrier 130. The jet orifice 109 is positioned at the bottom of the filter cup 105.

The filter paper 104 is fixed to the bottom of the filter cup 105 via screws and sealed by the 0-ring 103. The filter paper 104 divides the filter cup 105 into a top chamber 106 and a lower chamber 108. The diverter 110 is positioned below the filter cup 105. The brim of the diverter 110 turns up and a diverting hole is positioned at its bottom.

Various coffee pods or coffee powder can be placed in the top chamber 106 for brewing coffee. Coffee liquid in the top chamber 106 is filtered through the filter paper 104 and enters the lower chamber 108 so as to become pressurized coffee liquid.

Pressurized coffee liquid in the lower chamber 108 is ejected via the jet orifice 109 and the foaming mouth 101. Then coffee liquid is directed along the coffee passage 102, exits the outlet port 107 and hits onto the barrier 130, then falls into the diverter 110, and fmally is collected by the diverter 110 and flows out for drinking through the diverting hole of the diverter 110.
