Abstract

243,202. Draullette, E. Feb. 9, 1925. Packing-rings for stoppers and lids.-Bottles, tins &c. for preserving food products are hermetically closed by a cover having means for positively engaging it with the vessel and a resilient packing ring comprising a base or heel placed without tension either externally around the vessel or unternally with the cover the ring having a horizontal groove formed by two flanges which are pressed against the cover and vessel by difference of pressure within and without the vessel. A cover 2 secured to a vessel 1 by a bayonet joint is formed with inward projections or a horizontal groove 8 for retaining a packing ring 3, the flanges 3<1>, 3<2> of which are pressed against the cover and vessel by atmospheric pressure. The packing ring 3‹, Fig. 7, has its flanges turned inwards to resist internal pressure, the cover 2 being secured by an external bayonet joint 11, 12, and an inner stopper 10 being provided. The bayonet joint may be effected by forming the flanges of the vessel and cover of oval shape and cardboard &c. discs or plates may be used as packing for the ordinary junction devices.
