Abstract

243,813. Penn, R. W., and Stephens, W. A. Sept. 5, 1924. Detachable stoppers secured by clamping devices.-A closure for bottles and other receptacles comprises an elasically deformable cap a, Figs. 1 and 2, having a depending rim e, pressure members on, in, or associated with the upper surface adjacent the edge to establish sealing relation between the cap and receptacle, and locking members f on the rim of the cap for coacting with the receptacle, the pressure members being adapted to distort the rim inwardly at points d at or near the locking members and outwardly at points c remote therefrom when the cap is pressed on the receptacle to close it and to release the locking members when the rim is pressed inwards at the outwardly distorted points c. As shown, the pressure members comprise two grooves b spaced apart from each other and each increasing in depth from its ends towards its centre, but a single groove shallow at d and deep at c or two short grooves adjacent the points c may replace them. In a modification, the locking members comprise indentations n, Fig. 7, in the rim e located in pairs close to the shallow portions d of the pressure members. In another form a sealing disc k. Fig. 5, having one flat face and one with a cylindrical but slight curvature constitutes the pressure member, and coacts with a plain cap formed with a slightly scalloped rim. The invention may be applied to receptacles of oval, polygonal, rectangular, triangular or other shape. Specifioation 237,314 is referred to.
