Transferring articles to or from conveyances in motion. -The bucket 17, Fig. 3, of a ropeway conveyer is charged at intermediate or terminal stations from a hopper 5 which is carried along by the bucket whilst the material is being transferred, and the hopper is charged from a pivoted tray 2, Fig. 1, which receives material continuously from a conveyer, shoot, &c. 1 and tilted to deliver into the hopper when the latter is beneath it, as shown in broken lines. An inclined rail 19 beneath the haulage rope at a terminal station supports the trolly wheels 20 so that the rope haulage grips 18 of the bucket engage an arm 21 on the hopper to move the latter along rails 7 from A to B, whilst charging. At B, the rail 19 is low enough to permit disengagement of the members 18, 21, and the hopper is returned to A by the suspended weight 14. When the hopper is in position A the hinged side door 11 is held closed by a ramp 13, and the tray 2 is tilted by the engagement of the hopper with levers 6 so that the hopper is re-charged in readiness for filling the next ropeway bucket. A portable intermediate station is constructed similarly but with the rails for the hopper adjustably inclined so that the hopper returns by gravity when released by the carrier. The grip 18 is raised to the level of the hopper arm 21 by a horizonitl rail on the portable structure which engages and supports the carrying or hauling rope. The hopper is automatically released from the bucket owing to the inclination of the hopper rails.
