Abstract
242,724. Mclsack, H. J. Aug. 19, 1924. Automatic release hooks. - A hook F is automatically released from a pulley casing A when the load thereon is otherwise supported, e.g. by the ground, or by water when the load is a boat. The hook F has a spherical head which engages in a divided socket formed by sliding blocks D, D<1> when the blocks occupy the position shown in Fig. 3, at the lower end of the casing A. An internal casing K comprises two channel shaped sliding ways R, R<1> in which the blocks D, D' operate, and two side plates which are parallel to the outer casing. Springs E, E<1>, attached to the blocks D, D' and to stay bolts h, h<1>, are in tension when the hook is loaded, but withdraw the blocks along the divergent channels R, R<1> when the load in the hook is otherwise supported. Pulleys B, B<1>, B<2> are disposed within the casing A as shown in Fig. 2. In assembling the hook for loading, keys I, I<1> are inserted in the blocks D, D<1> through slots in the members R, R' and the blocks are drawn downwards against the action of the spring E, E<1>. Specification 226,674 is referred to.
