Abstract

Stoppers seated by gravity.-A sanitary receptacle such as a bowl or box for keeping clean a doctor's supplies, sugar, tobacco, &c. comprises a globe-shaped member 1 having an opening 2 in the top covered by a pivotal counterbalanced part-spherical cover 10. Downwardly extending arms 11 on. the cover 10 are formed with cam shaped openings 12 adapted to co-operate with cam shaped pivots 8 secured on the out-turned ends of the two halves of a metal band 5 disposed in a circumferential recess 4 at the largest diameter of the receptacle. The openings 12 and pivots 8 constitute knife edge supports and the edges of the openings make with one another a greater angle than that on the pivot to cause the cover 10 to be lifted outwardly from the receptacle when it is swung on its pivots. Washers 14 secured by the bent ends of the band 5 hold the arms 11 in place. The globe-shaped member may be disposed on the lid of a box or can to give access to the interior thereof without removing the lid.
