Fixed-chamber apparatus, varying quantity measured in. - Relates to apparatus of the type in which the measuring vessel is fitted with a vertically adjustable overflow weir and consists in constructing the gauge bar for positively determining the height to which the weir it to be raised in such manner that there is no visual observation of the said determining means. Arranged parallel with the overflow pipe 1 is a screwed shaft 31 carried in bearings 32 arranged on the main casing 4. Stops 34 which may be adjusted angularly and longitudinally on the shaft 31 are secured on the shaft by means of lock-nuts. A subsidiary casing 33 encloses the shaft 31 and stops 34, and an indicator disc 37 on the shafts may be viewed through an opening 38 in the casing so that the setting, which is accomplished by a knob 36 outside the casing, may be known. An arm 39 moving vertically with the pipe 1 engages the selected stop so as to determine the level of the weir. A plate 40 is mounted on the shaft 31 below the lowest stop and overlies the arm 39 when the latter is in the lowest position, thus preventing movement of the pipe 1 until the shaft 31 has been rotated to select a stop.
