Abstract

A fabric central heating radiator cover manufactured from a fire retardant material or cotton can be attached to the radiator by an elastic sewn into the edges of the cover or by hook and loop fasteners to permit the cover to be removed for cleaning. The cover may fit different sized radiators, may have pockets (8, fig 2) for storage and may have a decorative design which may be co-ordinated to a room in which the cover is to be used. The cover may be attached to the front of double radiators or boxed in radiators (fig 1) and would not cover any top vents or valves.

Description

1 2412161 Multi purpose radiator cover I wish to design a radiator cover
that is for more than one purpose. This would be made from either fire resistant material or natural cotton. It would be a great accessory for any room in any building.
This invention is for health and safety purposes as well as ibr decoration and storage.
Babies and pensioners and special needs would benefit greatly from this invention.
Radiators get really hot and if toddlers, pensioners or those with special needs should fall against the radiator and should become unconscious or immobile there is a risk of injury Tom serious burns. This radiator cover is tailored to fit the radiator win either elastic running round the edges to keep it taut or with Velcro attached to both itself and the radiator so it can be removed for easy cleaning The cover could also incorporate pockets for storage for example teddies, slippers and clothing. It could also be co-coordinated to match duvet covers and curtains in children's bedrooms for example cartoons characters with permission from copyrights such as Walt Disney, World Flags, Football Teams. My intention would be to arrange production of my own decorative design to be manufactured and also to offer my idea to company's who could then produce the covers with their own designs.
The cover would come in various different styles of fitting and size depending on Me type of radiator. It would basically be made from a piece of material with either Velcro fittings or elastic. It would not cover any top vents on radiators it would only cover the front aspect Bus allowing heat to still be dispersed into the room. It would not cover any control valves on the radiator so Be heat can be reduced or increased whom the need remove it.
Figure 1 (velcro version 1) Diagram a.Ttris shows the underside (1) of a simple flat sheet of Fire resistant material stitched top and bottom with a two centimetre hem (2). The cover has velcro attached to the underside (3) Diagram b.This shows cover in place on a vented boxed radiator. At each side the material overlaps the edge of the radiator and has Velcro attached to the underside (4) ofthe overlapping material. On the right hand side ofthe cover the female Velcro would be stitched onto Be cover and the male sticky back Velcro attached to the inside of the radiator (a) and on the left side the male would be attached to the cover and the female to the radiator (6) thus allowing the cover to be joined together during washing to prevent it becoming attached to anything else in He washing machine. This type of cover can be used on all types of radiator. If used on a double radiator the cover is attached to the front radiator only.
Figure 2.(velcroNJersion 2)This cover is very similar to the cover in figure 1 but tle Velcro is round all four sides (7) in same manner as above. This makes the strength of attachment greater allowing pockets to be attached to the outside of the cover for storage (8) This type of cover cannot be used on boxed in radiators with top vents. If used on a double radiator this, like the cover in figure lis only attached to the front radiator.
Figure 3.(elasticated version)The material is cut larger than Me radiator (9) then each corneris Hatred (10) to make it the perfect size of the radiator. Then herurned all the may rood apart from a gap in We stitching at the two bottom confers (11 and 12). Then elastic is threaded through as shown in Me diagram. This can then be fifed over the radiator and the looped end of the elastic (11) is hooked over the radiator pipe work if needed and the other free end can be tightened to pull the cover taut and the ends knotted around the pipes on other side (12. This provides greater sturdiness ofthe attachment Once knotted this does not have to be Shied each time the cover is washed as the elastic Oil stretch to allow easy removal and the cover is the correct size for the radiator. This type of cover cannot be used on boxed in radiators with top vents. Tins cover is also? Lee the above only arched to the front radiator on double radiators only. (
