Abstract

241,060. Crossley, P. B., and Crossley, S. Jan. 10, 1925. Propelling, steering, and manoeuvring by paddle-wheels. - A paddle-wheel comprises a number of feathering blades 3 mounted on spindles 4 which are journaled in discs 1 secured to a shaft 2. Each spindle 4 carries at opposite ends, or at the same end, two-armed levers 5, 6 set at right angles to one another and fitted with rollers 7 engaging grooves 12 of varying width formed in adjustable control members 8, 9, the groove 12 in the member 8 being set at an angle of 180‹ to the groove in the member 9. By varying the angular position of the members 8, 9, the direction of the thrust exerted by the blades 3 can be varied.
