The blade a' can be lifted without rotating the thermometer by a bracket e engaging the lower end of a shaft f surrounding the shaft a, the bracket being elevated or lowered by known means comprising a screwed shaft g worked by hand-controlled bevel gears h. To steady the moving parts when the blade are lifted, a bracket &c. k is pivoted to the sleeve c<2> and is jointed to a bar h<2> which is bolted to a bracket k<3> fixed to the frame of the apparatus.
