Envelopes, rnaking.-Relates to envelope-making machines of the kind in which a blank is lifted from a pile A by a guminer and is then carried beneath a plunger, the sealing-flap being gummed by a second gummer 20 having a wiping action. According to the invention, the sealing-flap gummer 20 is reciprocated on a slide-bar 22 by a link 51 and lever 53 operated by an eccentric, and the necessary vertical movement of the gummer 20 is produced independently by a cam-actuated bell-crank lever 31, which is connected to the bar 22 by a link 28 and thus rocks the bar 22 about a pivot 23. During its backward movement the gummer 20 is gummed by a roller 58. The lever 31 is controlled by an adjustable tension spring 45 which holds the roller 40 of the operating-level 39 against the cam 41.
