[Class 130.] To prevent tearing or breaking the fibres during the feeding operations, tobacco d is placed in slots a<1> in trays a which are moved intermittently or continuously over a table b, and is compressed by a plunger e and then delivered by a second plunger g on to a moving tape h. The plunger e is raised in slots e' by cams e<3> acting through links e<4>, e<5> and it is moved transversely by cams a<2> which impart an intermittent movement to the trays. The plunger g is operated by a cam g<2>. To correct irregular motion of the trays in the event of warping they are weighted by a mass k. The compressed tobacco at the ends of the slots is smoothed out by a weight, not shown, carried by chains.
