Abstract
A separating machine with a number of rotating shafts each with a number of star wheels mounted on each shaft. They are arranged on the shaft in such a way that the fingers of each star wheel on one shaft line up with the bosses of the star wheels on the adjacent shaft. Each shaft which is mounted so as to rotate on bearings 3 may also be driven independently. The shafts are mounted on an adjustment mechanism whereby a series of pivot arms 4, pivot bushes 5 and tie plates 6 enable the shaft centres to be adjusted along the length of the machine, but maintaining an equal distance between the shafts.
Description
Adjustable Separator
The invention relates to s separator which can be used in the quarry and aggregate re- cyclmg industry, but not exclusively so, to separate stones and gravel from excavated material. The adjustable separator would normally form part of a system for processing soils and/or aggregate materials.
Current machines use metal or plastic mesh screens which have the tendency to block if worked in wet conditions, or small stones can jam in the mesh therefore rendering the machine ineffective. Also, if the operation requires a variation in the sizes of materials to be separated, then the machine has to be stopped and the entire mesh screen exchanged.
The adjustable separator is capable of working in wet conditions and does not suffer from jamming from small stones, and the separation of material can be varied by simple mechanical adjustment whilst in operation.
An object of this invention is to provide a machine which will separate materials in all weather conditions, and which is capable of being adjusted for the size of material to be removed without being taken out of work.
The invention consists of a number of rotatable shafts, mounted on each shaft is a number of star wheels fabricated from metal or plastic. The shafts will generally be mounted on a chassis or between side panels of unitary construction.
A preferred embodiment ofthe invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows a view of the star wheels.
FIGURE 2 is a plan view ofthe star wheel arrangement.
FIGURE 3 shows a side view ofthe adjustment mechanism As shown in Figure 1, the star wheels (1) are mounted on the shafts (2) in such a way that the fingers of each star wheel are arranged so that they line up with the boss on the corresponding star wheel on the next shad. This provides selfcleaning and the aperture through which sizing can occur. Each shaft is mounted so as to rotate on bearings (3 in Fig 2). Each shaft can be driven independently.
The adjustment mechanism can be seen in Figure 2, whereby a series of pivot arms ( 4), pivot bushes (5) and tie plates (6) enable the shaft centres to be adjusted along the length of the machine.
The principle operation ofthis invention is that material of differing sizes can be separate from the whole material by adjusting the gap between the star wheels so as to allow the required size of material to pass through.
Claims (2)
1. A separation machine including a number of rotatable shafts, mounted on an adjustable mechanism to allow the spacings between the shads to be altered.
2. A separation machine as claimed in Claim I where the shafts contain stars.
