Air, controlling humidity of. - Apparatus for drying clothing &c. comprises a receptacle for the clothing, means for conducting drying air through the receptacle, and means sensitive to the humidity of the air for terminating the drying operation. The apparatus comprises a perforate rotary tumbler 3, Fig. 3, mounted in a casing through which air is circulated by a fan 10, the tumbler and the fan being stopped when the desired humidity is reached by a psychrometer exposed to the moisture-laden air passing through the exhaust duct 11. The psychrometer consists of wet and drv bulb thermometers located in the duct and communicating with Bourdon tubes 36, Fig. 5, the ends of which are secured to shafts 34 carrying switch arms 32, 33 adapted to move over contacts 40 carried by a plate 21 of insulating material. The contacts 40 are connected through wires 42, Fig. 4, to interconnected contacts 43 carried by a removable insulated plate 44, the positions of the contacts upon the plate depending upon the humidity at which the drying operation is to be terminated. When the desired humidity is reached an electrical circuit is completed through resilient brushes 38 and the arms 32, 33 to cut out the motors driving the tumbler and the fan and thus bring the drying operation to a close.
