Abstract

239,649. Smith, W. S., and Brookfield, D. April 9, 1925. Shaft and like furnaces having upper and lower wind belts connected by a number of passages, are provided with radiating smoke tubes o in the upper belt. The inner wall a of the cupola is lined with fire-brick band surrounded by an outer wall e which encloses the upper wind belt f, lower wind belt g, and connecting passages m. A cover n closes the top of the cupola and the gases pass through the radiating tubes o to an annular chamber p and thence to the stack q. Air supplied by a fan r passes over the tubes o and is thereby preheated before passing through the passages m to the lower belt g which merges into a continuous tuyere t extending through the fire-brick lining to the interior of the furnace.
