Abstract
An elongate cylindrical or polyhedral absorbent bib 1 is positioned around a wearer's neck by tying means 3, Velcro (RTM), hook and eye fasteners or press studs. The absorbent material (2, fig 2) may be polyester, sponge or towelling and may be removably enclosed in a cotton sheath.
Description
1 2390531
1 Improved bib 3 this invention relates to bibs, in particular bibs for 4 babies, although it also relates to bibs for children or acilts. 7 Conventionally, bibs arc provided to protect clothing of ha'cir>; or young chilctren or, in some cases, adults with 9 injuries or disbiliti.es. Typically these bibs are 10 rmo.lcled from very rigid plastic mat.eri als or provided as l:L a flat cloth material. When using the flat cloth 1? material bibs, typical.ly the bibs will quickly become ]] s:..kcc] and spillages will leak through the rnateria] onto 14 tin wr.=arer's clc:'thiny below. Although sr->mi-rigid plcist.ic 15 bibs overcome this problem, as they do not cJ] low material 16> to-' steak through, these bibs are diffic:ulL to clean and 1/ cannot simply be placer] into a washir-y machine, for 28 example, for ire-. se.
0 it car be seen that it would he beneficial to provide a 2] hey bib that is able to prevent spillaces from leakinc.
22 through onto the user's clothing below.
2.?
l It would also be an object of the present invention to provide a bid that can he easily washed.
4 A further object of the present inventior- its to provide a 5 bib that may be disposable if required.
A, 7 According to a first aspect of the present invention, 8 tler-e is provided an absorbent bib comprising a flexible 9 cylinder of absorbent material wherein, in use, the 10 cylinder is positioned around a performs neck.
] A<ccrdlug to a second aspect of the present invention, ]3 Sincere iS prcvided an absorbent bib comprising a flexible 14 polyhedron of absorbent material wherein, in use, the ]': polyhedron is positioner] around a perscn's neck.
]7 (')F't-iona]]y Lhe absorbent material is polyester.
19 Optionally, the absorbent material may be sponge 20 materia l.
2 A further option is that, tile absorhert material may he 23 towelllng material.
=8 O->Lionally, the absorhent material is encased in an outer 26 srneath.
28 (')FtionaLly, tile outer sheath is cotton.
30 Preferably, the seventh ix made from towering material.
-,2 Prefer.bly, the ends of the absorbent material are 33 provided with securing means.
2 Opti onal ly, the securing means may be tying means.
4 Alt ernatLively, the securing; means may be i n the fcrm of a 5 Velcro' fastener.
/ Alternati very, the securing means may be in the form of In hcok and eye fastener.
] O A further al ternative is that the securing pearls may be 21 in the form of a press stud.
]:? 1 3 Optionally, the sheath may be removed from the absorbent 14 materic 1.
1 r) (; A] ternativeLy, the sheat.r- is secr-ed and cannot he 17 removed from tile absor'oent. material.
1 8 ]'3 ():'tionc-lly desicns newly be printed or sewn or-to the O s hea t T. '1 22 Try order to provicie a clearer understarcling of the 23 E:reser-L invention, ernhodirnents wi] I be. desert bed by way 4 cuff ex. mpl.e Only, with rcference to the following drawings 2', in whi ch i' (, 27 Fiq.'re 1 is - per-spect.ive view of a bib ac.ordir-c3 to the :. 8 present invert ion; and ]0 Figr.re 2 is a section view of a bib according to the 3] present: invent ion.
?
1 In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the baby bib I is provided in a cylirdri Cal shape which is ! brunt into a partial circle, such that it is able to fit al ounce:: wearer's neck.
_) 6 In t he preferred embodiment, which is.showr in Figure 1, 7 the ends of the cylincier a provided wi th ties 3 which are 8 able to secure the bi b 1 in place.
1() In alternative embodiments, the ties 3 can be replaced l l wi th press studs, Velcro_ or any other securing means.
]:3 Ir, the preferred embodiment, the cylindrical absorbent ]9 rnateri.al 2 is polyester and is encaseci wi.thln a matericll :1', sheath 4 (as can bc seen in Figure 2). In a] ternative 16 cmbo<:timents the absor-l:.>ert cylinder clan be made from l 7 alternative absorbent material s. The outer sheath 4 is ] mc:le tram a permeable mater) al whi Oh wi] 1 allow liquid to 3 f l ow through it.. In the E>re:Lerred embodiment, the she.-. ?t.h () 9 its made from cotton. In certain embodirnerl( s the sheath 1 may be produced f rom a semi-permeabl e membrane whi ch 2 a] lows the fluids to flow in only one ctirection through 2 3 the material.
'5 It. can be seen that the present invention has many 26 beneLi to over the Tori or art. In particular, the? thrce 1 cdincnsior-al shape of the bib in t.hc, present i.r-vention 28 means that any liquid spillac.es can be absorbed into the I bid an<d wil 1. riot simply soak through i t. Also, as the A) b;ci is frilly washable, it can easily he re-.sed, although l if necessary the bib can be made of disposable materials -,2 anct provide al. l of the.samc advantages. Alsc', as the bi b -, 3 ctccs not exter-cl downwards coverinc the chest arc, it
1 does not cover clothing and is therefore visually more 2 at.tr-activc.
