Abstract

238,984. Ironside, E. A. June 16, 1924. Purifiers.-An apparatus for treating gaseous mixtures with adsorbents comprises a chamber a having a perforated plate c to support the material, a gas-inlet pipe d extending vertically from the bottom to near the top, a gas-outlet h near the bottom, and a series of separate heating or cooling coils 1 - - 5 arranged within the mass of absorbent material. A baffle e is fixed near the mouth of the pipe d to deflect the mixture downwardly, and loss of absorbent through the outlet h is prevented by a baffle i. The coils 1 - - 5 are connected to inlet and outlet headers f, g respectively and encircle the pipe d, the coils being preferably arranged equidistantly and in staggered relationship. In use, the mixture is introduced through the pipe d until the absorbent is saturated, after which steam is introduced through the same pipe and the absorbed constituents recovered.
