Abstract
A fitting for preventing slipping of the shoulder strap of an undergarment is attached to the inside of an outer garment, e.g. at a shoulder seam. The fitting may have holes C by which it can be sewn to the outer garment and a slot A which receives the strap. The slot may be closed at both ends as shown with a narrow entrance B for the strap or it may be open at one end.
Description
23880 1 2
Clothing Fitment The invention relates to a garment fitment that is attached to the shoulder or shoulder seam of an outer garment. The purpose of the fitment is to secure the straps of an under garment in a position under the outer garment, so as not to protrude and be visible.
BACKGROUND
When wearing sleeveless or wide-necked garments the straps of undergarments e.g. vests, brassieres often show and it is unsightly. The problem is that undergarments tend to be close fitting and outer garments are often looser fitting and cut differently In this way the undergarment and outer garment often sit differently specially as the wearer moves about.
DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the invention is to secure the undergarment to the outer garment in an unobtrusive fashion so that they stay together allowing normal movement and the undergarment is not visible.
The fitment would be attached permanently to the outer garment most usually on the shoulder or preferably on shoulder seam where one exists. The fitment could also be fixed at other points depending on the cut of the outer garment and where the under garment strap is showing in normal wear.
The fitment may also be adapted to secure other garments with a larger strap or where the undergarment is cut so that it protrudes from under the outer garment e g. vest.
The fitment would be attached by thread. The thread being of a oolour to match the outer garment. Ideally the fixing point would be embedded in a seam so as not to be obvious when looking at the outer garment.
DETAILED DESCRIPTRION
A preferred embodiment of the invention is now described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
The fitment is designed to allow malleable straps or garments to fit through an opening and into a larger recess of suitable dimension.
The fitment may be adapted to allow malleable straps or garment to slide into an opening of suitable dimension, which holds it in position.
DRAWINGS
FIGURE 1 shows the top view of the fitment (not to size). The undergarment strap is placed in Position A. The strap being of a malleable material can be bent to slide through Position B and then released to fit in the recess Position B. The internal measurement of Position A is such that the undergarment strap fits securely and is not easily dislodged during movement. Position C marks the holes for securing the fitment to the outer garment.
FIGURE 2 shows the fitment to accommodate wider straps. Position D Shows three holes to ensure fitment sits securely in position for comfort and to avoid the strap becoming dislodged from the fitment in movement.
FIGURE 3 shows the fitment Position D version attached to the inside of the outer garment shoulder seam. Position E shows the edge of the shoulder seam Position F shows the sewn seam into which the fitment is secured if present. Position G shows the fitment secured in position FIGURE 4 Position H shows the undergarment strap slotted into the fitment having been threaded through Position B and secured in Position A FIGURE The drawing shows the fitment adapted Position I to hold in place larger straps or undergarment protruding from under an outer garment. Again the fitment may be secured in a number of positions and in different garments to avoid an undergarment protruding and becoming visible.
FIGURE 6 The drawing shows the fitment flipped to accommodate straps or undergarments for either shoulder Position J FIGURE: The drawing shows a large strap or garment Position K held in place with the htment described in figure 5
