Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Apparatus on a carding machine The invention relates to an apparatus on a carding machine, in which there is one or more working modules having a plurality of working elements, for example, fixed carding elements, suction devices, separating blades or the like, arranged lying opposite a roller, for example, a cylinder.
In a known apparatus (DE 38 35 776 Al), the modules are equipped with two or more working elements and are secured to the card plate. A cleaning device in the form of a suction unit is present, upstream of which there is a guide bar and downstream of which there is a blade bar. It is a disadvantage that this apparatus does not allow the composition of the separated impurities (waste composition) to be manipulated nor does it allow neps to be removed.
It is an aim of the invention to produce an apparatus of the kind described in the introduction that avoids or mitigates the said disadvantages and in particular allows the waste composition to be altered or influenced and allows neps to be removed.
The invention provides an apparatus on a carding machine having a roller and, associated with the roller, a pre-carding zone and a post-carding zone, the apparatus comprising at least two separation modules
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
arranged in the pre-carding zone and/or at least two separation modules arranged in the post-carding zone for the separation of impurities and/or neps, each module being opposed to the roller and comprising a plurality of working elements.
The measures according to the invention enable the separation of troublesome impurities and/or neps to be quite substantially improved. It is a particular advantage that a multi-functional arrangement of the working elements is made possible. That enables them to be adapted in a versatile manner to the fibre material, in order to meet high quality requirements of the product to be manufactured. In addition, particularly in consequence of the modular construction and, in preferred cases, the uniform angular extent, the time required for exchange of worn working elements combined with high precision mounting of the exchanged elements can be substantially reduced.
Advantageously, there are at least two modules in the pre-carding zone. Advantageously, there are at least two modules in the post-carding zone.
Advantageously, at least two modules in the or each said zone comprise at least one module arranged to promote separation of neps and at least one module arranged to promote separation of impurities.
Advantageously, the module for the separation of impurities-viewed in the direction of rotation of the roller-comprises at least one fixed carding element,
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
a separating element and a pressure element.
Advantageously, the module for the separation of nepsviewed in the direction of rotation of the rollercomprises at least one pressure element, a separating element and a fixed carding element. Advantageously, the separating element comprises a suction hood.
Advantageously, the separating element comprises two carding segments. Advantageously, the fixing card element comprises two carding segments.
Advantageously, the pressure element is capable of adjustably altering the pressure between the cover and the roller. Advantageously, the pressure element comprises a pressure bar or similar. Preferably, at least three modules are present in the pre-carding zone and/or post-carding zone. Advantageously, in the precarding zone and/or post-carding zone-viewed in the direction of rotation of the roller-at least one impurity-separating module is mounted upstream of at least one ne-separating module. Advantageously, in the pre-carding zone and/or post-carding zone-viewed in the direction of rotation of the roller-at least one impurity separating module is mounted downstream of at least one nep-separating module. Advantageously, the modules are arranged on the curved extension of the card. Advantageously, the curved extension is secured to a card plate on each side of the card.
Advantageously, the pre-carding zone and/or the postcarding zone is subdivided-in relation to the axis of
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
rotation of the roller-into a plurality of angular regions, all of which have a uniform angular extent or an integral multiple of this uniform angular extent.
Advantageously, the modules encompass the same angular range, that is, the subtend substantially equal angles at the axis of the roller. Advantageously, the curved extension is adjustable by means of at least three adjusting elements, for example, adjusting spindles or similar. Advantageously, a neutral covering element is arranged in at least one angular range.
The invention also provides an apparatus on a carding machine, in which, in the pre-carding and/or post-carding zone, a plurality of working elements, for example, fixed carding elements, suction devices, separating blades and the like, are arranged lying opposite a roller, for example, a cylinder, andviewed in the circumferential direction of the rollerare arranged lying side by side, a module being formed from at least two working elements, wherein in the precarding zone and/or the post-carding zone, at least two modules are present, which are provided for separation of impurities (contaminants) such as trash and the like and/or for the separation of neps.
The invention also provides a method for removing unwanted material from fibre material comprising subjecting the fibre material to treatment by first and second modules opposed to a roller, each module comprising at least two working elements, one of said
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
first and second modules being arranged for promoting removal of neps and the other of said first and second modules being arranged for promoting removal of impurities.
Certain illustrative embodiments of the invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a schematic side view of a carding machine with an apparatus according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a side view of an embodiment of the apparatus having two modules for separation of impurities in the pre-carding zone; Fig. 3 is a side view of a further embodiment of the apparatus having two modules for separation of neps in the post-carding zone; Fig. 4 is a side view of an embodiment of the apparatus having three modules for separation of impurities and neps in the pre-carding zone; and Fig. 5 is a side view of an embodiment of the apparatus having three modules for separation of impurities and neps in the post-carding
