Abstract
238,180. Wiking, H. March 6, 1925. Single-acting piston pumps; delivery spouts; suction reservoirs.-An oil can fitted with a pump is provided with an air inlet which is closed when the pump is inoperative, so as to prevent leakage of oil. In the inoperative position, the piston 5, Fig. 1, of the pump is pressed by a spring 11 against a tube 110 secured to the underside of the cover 12 of the pump cylinder 2, and in this position covers an aperture 10 in the cylinder. When the piston is depressed, the interior of the can 1 is in communication with the atmosphere through a hole 33 in the cover 12, the tube 110, and the aperture 10. The can is provided with a filling opening 7 closed by a screwed cap. The openings 10, 33 may be replaced by an air inlet controlled by a spring- pressed valve. The pump discharges through a pipe 20 connected to a spout 3, which is pivoted to the can so as to swing in a vertical direction. The joint is effected by relatively-rotatable members 21, 22, Fig. 6, held together by a screw 26 and having interengaging annular recesses and projections 29, 31 with interposed packing 30. In the modification shown in Fig. 8, the spout 3 is pivotally connected to the top of the can by a plug-and-socket joint 39, 40, the pipe 20 communicating with the spout through channels 38, 40<a>, 43. The flanged end of the spout 3 is connected to the plug 40 by a coupling sleeve 44, allowing the spout to be rotated about its own axis by a milled flange 46. A filling opening 7 is closed by a pivoted cover 8.
