HANDY ornent,
Specifieation of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 26, 1918.
Application filed lune 12, 1917. Serial No. 174,814.
T0 all wkom z't may concem:
Be it knwn that I, JOHANNES BOGAARD, a; citizen of the United States, residing at Grangevflleyin the county of Idaho, State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handy Cil-0ans; and I do he1eby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art\to which it appertains to make and use the 'same.
This invention relates to new and use: ful improvements inoil cans, and has for its primary object to provide an oil can in which the oil is forced from the can under pressure.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of the can,
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view thereof,
Fig. 3 is a detail view of a portion of the device,
Fig. 4 is a detail view of another portion of the device, and,
Fi 5 is a longitudinalsectional view showmg onelof the operating positions of the dev1ce.
Referrin more particularly to the drawings, the evice comprises a receptacle 10 the top of which is provided with an annula r flange 11 which is adapted to be closed by a screw threaded plug 12.
Rigidly carried by this screw threaded plug and extending t0 a point near the bottom of the receptacle 10 is a tubular member 13, and this tubular member is provided with a reduced tubular extension 14 which is removably secured to said tube by =means of a coupling 15 as shown in Fig. 3.
The coupling is provided with a reduced passage way 16 and pivotally mounted as at 17 and, adapted to close said reduced passage 16% is a valve member 18. This tubular member 13 projects above the screw threaded plug 12 as at 19 and in saidprojecting portion, the tubular member 13 is provided with diametrically opposite slots 20 for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
Slidably mounted within the tubular member 13, is a tubular member 22 the upper end of which is provided with a discharge spout 23 which is reduced relative to the tube 22, and at the base of said reduced portion there is formed a shoulder 24. Monnted upon the shoulder 24 is an operating handle 25 the ends 26 of which .are adapted to pass through the diametrically opposite slots 20, and this handle 25 forms means by which the tubular member 22 is reciprocated longitudinally of the tubular member 13. The tubular member 22 is provided at its lower ends with a valve scat 30 which in turn is provided with a central passage 31 and pivoted as at 32 to said valve scat is a valve member 33 which is adapted to close the opening 31. Slidably mounted in the tubular member 13 is a pump piston 35, and interposed betWeen the top edge of the coupling 15 and said piston 35 is a coil spring 36.
1 The operation of the device is as folows:
The receptacle-is' held in the hand with spring 36, and this movement causes the outer stationary tubular member mounted therein, a valve normally closing the inner end of said tubular member, a cou ling connected to the inner end of said tu ular member, a tubular extension carried by said coupling and eXtending exteriorly and longitudmally of said tubular member and toward its outer end, an inner tubular member slidably mounted in said outer tubularmember, and a valve controlling the inner end of the inner tubular member and adapted to open to admit a liquid into the inner tubular member When the same is slid inwardly.
2. An oil can comprising a receptacle, an outer stati0nary tubular member mounted end of said tubular member, a coupling 10 'the same is slid inwardly, and a spring interposed between said coupling and the inner and of said inner tubular member to normally force the same outWardly.
In testimony whereof, I aflix niy signature in the presence of two witnesses.
J OHANN ES BOOGAARD.
