Abstract

The cable comprises upper 120 and lower 130 polyester insulation sandwiching intermediate parallel conductors 140 and joined by parallel welded seams 150 between adjacent conductors having a knurled surface and smooth or less rough seams 115 at the cable edge. Edge seams may comprise a textured zone adjacent a conductor and a smooth zone adjacent the edge. The conductors may be single, wound, stacked or tandem (Figs 24-28 within the seams. The cable is formed without adhesive residue. The cable is made by simultaneous feeding of upper and lower insulating layers with an intermediate conductor layer between an ultrasonic welding machine horn and anvil. The anvil comprises interchangable knurled 160, protrusion 162 or cutting (172 Fig. 9b) inserts, bracket inserts 164, 166 and end segments 168, 170 allowing anvil assembly according to cable configuration desired. Used in an airbag to steering wheel clockspring.
