Abstract

The system comprises a small transmitter, designed to be worn by a child, and a small receiver designed to be worn by a parent. The purpose being to alert the parent if either the child is immersed in water or moves out of reception range. The transmitter emits a preset code every few seconds. It incorporates an immersion detector such that in the event of immersion in water the code is changed. The receiver constantly monitors for the preset code, if this code is not received within a defined time interval then an audible alarm is sounded. The receiver will therefore alarm in the case of either the transmitter being immersed in water, or the transmitter being out of range.

Description

GAB OVERBOARD Description 'Overboard'is a simple alarm system designed to alert the wearer of the receiver to the transmitter being under water. Primarily designed fo use in the boating comunity for children or pets.
The transmitter sends a pulse, coded by a 12 bit coder. At a present time, eg 3 seconds until such time that the moisture sensor is switched and breaks the pulse.
A reset switch is incorporated to re-activate after sensor is dried.
The receiver constantly looks for the coded pulse, the moment a pulse is not dected the alarm circuit is operated.

Claims (9)

  1. Claims 1. A system comprising a transmitter and receiver using a shared frequency and shared digital code such that the receiver can monitor for the presence and correctness of the code being tranmitted.
  2. 2. A system as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the transmitter periodically transmits a digitally coded for a number of repetitions of such code.
  3. 3. A system as claimed in Claim I and Claim 2, wherein the transmitter incorporates an immersion detector such that the code being transmitted can be modified if such an immersion detector is activated.
  4. 4. A system as claimed in any preceeding claims, wherein the immersion detector shall enter a latched state once activated until such time as it has been removed from immersion and a reset function activated.
  5. 5. A system as claimed in any preceeding claims, wherein the receiver detects the absence of reception of the shared digital code and generates an audible or other alarm.
    <Desc/Clms Page number 3>
  6. 6. A system as claimed in any preceeding claims, wherein the receiver detects the replacement of the normal shared digital code transmission with the transmission of the digital code resulting from the activation of the immersion detector within the transmitter.
  7. 7. A system as claimed in any preceeding claims, wherein such transmitter is suitable for wearing by a child, adult, or domestic pet.
  8. 8. A system as claimed in any preceeding claims, wherein such receiver is suitable for wearing on a person, or for mounting in or on a vehicle or boat.
  9. 9. A system constructed and adapted to operate substantially as hereinbefore described.
