Abstract

A battery operated device consisting of a multi-channel transmitter, a receiver and a holder. The transmitter may be worn on the wrist or attached to baggage, and the receiver may be hand held. An audible/vibrational alarm sounds when the transmitter and receiver are separated by a pre-set distance. The locating device may include a GPS monitoring system 9 defining the whereabouts of the receiver or the transmitter. The transmitter may include a panic button (3,Fig 1) to activate the alarm at the receiver. The alarm may be activated if no movement is detected at the transmitter for a predetermined time. Both transmitter and receiver may include means for indicating a low battery condition 2.

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
DESCRIPTION LOCATOR SYSTEM APPLICATIONS
1. CHILD/PANIC ALARM The general idea of the system is to be able to monitor your child or children. The child would have the Transmitter (see drawing 0001 TX) and the parent would have the Receiver (see drawing 0002RX). If the Child goes out of a certain range an alarm will sound so that the parent is notified. If the child is in distress they can push the Panic Button to gain the parents attention. If the child IS unable to move or the transmitter has been taken, off a motion sensor will be activated and trigger the Motion Alarm. The Receiver will also have the option of a GPS facility to be able to locate the transmitter (see drawing 0003GPS). Tnis should give the parent peace of mind where their children are concerned. Both units will be waterproof and have low battery warning lights.
2. BAGGAGEALARM Again the LOCATOR could be used to protect baggage. The transmitter could be sewn into the baggage and a receiver worn on the wrist. You would only need the range sensor and the movement sensor, used in reverse, for this application. If someone were to tamper with you baggage the vibration sensor would send a Motion Alarm. You would also be notified if the baggage were taken out of range. Again this unit would also be capable of GPS tracking to enable you to find your baggage.
SYSTEM OVERVIEW The system comprises of a multi channel transmitter, receiver and holder.
The transmitter is to be housed in a watch style wrist strap and the receiver will be housed in a pager style unit. The receiver will be constantly communicating across various channels in order to monitor any alarm conditions. There will be four alarm conditions. The alarm conditions will be communicated through a buzzer, vibration alert and an indication LED.
1. Battery Low-This constantly monitors both transmitter and receiver for battery strength. When the low battery threshold is broken by either unit, the battery alarm will activate and status indication will be displayed.
2. Child Alert-The child alert will be set-up to monitor the range between the two units.
When the units are out of range the Child Alert alarm will be activated and status indication shown. The range alarm will monitor signal strength and the user will be able to control the various thresholds between low, medium and high to adjust the range allowable.
3. Child Panic-The child panic will be activated by a push button located on the transmitter. When pressed the alarm will be activated and the status indication shown.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
DESCRIPTION SYSTEM OVERVIEW-Continued 4. Still Alert-The still alert will be activated if the transmission unit is still for a set time period. Once the unit is still, a timer will be started. If the unit is moved again before the timer expires the timer will be reset for the next time the unit is motionless. If the unit is still motionless when the timer runs out the Still Alert will be activated and status indication shown.
The system will also be able to use GPS technology to be able to locate the transmitter and give its location for retrieval
