Course-recording apparatus of the kind in which the movement of the carrier is resolved into rectangular components by means of a sphere driving two sets of friction rollers, is provided with an additional and similar resolving device for applying a correction for the drift of the aircraft &c. on which the apparatus is carried. The main resolving-means comprises a sphere h driven by a roller l and driving two pairs of rollers i, j. The roller l is driven from a propeller or log through a flexible transmission g and reduction gearing m, and is mounted in a fork o geared to a shaft c which is controlled by a compass repeater &c. Where motion is imparted to the roller l by a propeller on an aircraft, the propeller is counterbalanced so that its axis retains a horizontal position. The correcting device comprises a similar sphere q driven by a motor M at a speed proportional to the wind velocity, and driven rollers s, s', the fork u in which the driving roller k is mounted being oriented by a hand wheel B according to the direction of the wind. The corresponding driven rollers are connected through differentials W, W<1> to shafts e<1>, f<1> adapted to move the map in directions at right-angles.
