Abstract

The sterilizer unit is a means of sterilizing a toothbrush after use and keeping it free from germs and bacteria while not in use. Once the toothbrush is inserted though the foil top 2 into the sterilizing fluid 3 in the container 1, sterilizing takes place and is maintained until further use. The sterilizer unit, with toothbrush inserted, can be easily stored by one of the two options available, wall mounting bracket 4 or free- standing holder 5 (see figs. 2,3).

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
TOOTHBRUSH STERILIZER UNIT This invention is a method of sterilizing a toothbrush after each use and keeping it free from germs and bacteria while stored between uses.
It is usual to find in most homes the family toothbrushes either standing together in mugs or lined up in toothbrush racks in the bathroom. Very few ever get sterilized.
Studies have found that germs and bacteria can be carried in the bristles of toothbrushes and can even be transferred from one brush to another. Some suggestions for reducing this occurrence have been to change a toothbrush every four to fourteen days or place it in the dishwasher.
The invention provides a sterilizer unit that can be supplied with an optional wall mounting bracket or a free-standing holder. Whether wall mounted or free-standing the sterilizer unit is the same and consists of a plastic container partly filled with sterilizing fluid, sealed with an aluminium foil lid of a thickness for effective sealing of the fluid and capable of being pierced by a toothbrush.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which :- Figure 1 shows a 3rd angle drawing of the sterilizer unit with the side elevation sectioned on its centre line to show the sterilizing fluid at its level prior to toothbrush insertion.
Figure 2 shows the wall-mounting bracket, one of two options for storing the Sterilizer Unit.
Figure 3 shows the second option for storing the Sterilizer Unit, the free-standing holder.
This third angle drawing has been sectioned on its centre line to show the holder cavity shape.
Referring to the drawings the unit comprises of a plastic moulded container 1, sterilizing fluid 2, sealed with an aluminium foil top 3 There are in addition two options for storage of the unit a wall mounted bracket 4 and a free-standing holder 5.
In order to use the sterilizer unit, the toothbrush, after use, is pushed through the aluminium foil top into the sterilizing fluid, the fluid level is predetermined to prevent over flow. The sterilizer unit containing the toothbrush is then stored in one of the two options 4 or 5 until the next time of use. When the toothbrush is used again the sterilizer unit is then discarded and a new sealed unit is used for the next storage period. This replacement process should take place every time a person cleans their teeth.

Claims (5)

  1. CLAIMS 1 A toothbrush sterilizer unit comprising of a plastic moulded container filled with a predetermined amount of sterilizing fluid and sealed with an aluminium foil top. The foil top has sufficient aluminium thickness to allow the toothbrush to push through it and enter the sterilizing fluid.
  2. 2 A toothbrush sterilizer unit as claimed in claim 1 with a wall-mounting bracket for storing the toothbrush sterilizer unit while the toothbrush is being kept sterilized.
  3. 3 A toothbrush sterilizer unit as claimed in claim 1 or 2 with a free-standing holder for storing the toothbrush sterilizer unit while the toothbrush is being kept sterilized.
  4. 4 A toothbrush sterilizer unit as claimed in claim 2 or claim 3 wherein the aluminium foil top while securely sealing the sterilizing fluid in, is thin enough to allow the toothbrush to pierce its own entry hole to the fluid.
  5. 5 A toothbrush sterilizer unit as claimed in claim 2 or 3 wherein the container, the wall-mounting bracket and the free standing holder are plastic mouldings.
