Circulating fluids through materials.-In dyeing machines of the kind in which the vat 1 is divided by a partition 2 into a dyeing compartment 3 and a circulating compartment 4, propellers 6 in the circulating compartment serving to circulate the. dye liquor in one directicn or the other, the goods to be dyed being contained in a cage 41 having a perforated bottom and a perforated removable cover 50, the cage being secured to cross-beams 30a having eyes 31 for the reception of the hooks of the hoisting mechanism, the cage 41 is detachably secured to the beams 30<a> and the removable cover 50 is adjustably suspended from the beams. A supporting rail 39 having a groove 40 therein is also provided on the bottom of the dyeing compartment, the lower edge 49 of the cage 41 being adapted to fit into the groove 40. The portion of the rail 39 adjacent the partition 2 is formed with a passage to allow of the circulation of the dye liquor. The cage. 41 has four solid sides reinforced by corner braces 42 and guide, strips 43, centre braces 44 also being provided for large cages. The bottom of the cage is made up of a number of slats 45 resting between side-strips 46, 47, Fig. 2, and spaced apart by pins 48 set in sockets in the strips. For wide cages central strips 46<a>, 47<a> and spacing pins 48a may also be provided. The cover 50 is formed of a frame 51 having slats 52 situated between trips 53, 54 spaced apart by pins 55 and with or without central strips 53<a>, 54<a> and pins 55<a>. Bars 28<a> extending across the cover 50 are adjustably suspended by bolts 29<a> and nuts from the crossbeams 30<a> which extend over the sides of the vat and may serve to support the cage instead of the rail 39. The cage 41 is detachably secured to the beams by means of plates 56 the screwed stems at their upper ends extending through holes in the beams and being secured thereto by nuts.
