Abstract
237,277. Stevens Sound-Proofing Co., (formerly Stevens Partition & Floor Deadener Co.), (Assignees of Murphy, E. N.). July 17, 1924, [Convention date]. Joist floors. - An upper floor 11 is laid upon a series of nailing strips 12 supported in padded chairs 13, 14 secured to the lower floor 10, and the, two floors are connected by nails 24 which are driven part way into the nailing strips 12 and project through openings 22 in the chair seats, such openings being of sufficient size to afford clearance for the nails. The nail heads constitute the only non-cushioned connection and are normally maintained out of contact with the chairs by reason of the weight of the upper floor. A chair consists of a pair of U-shaped members 13, 14 placed back to back, the upper member being lined with felt &c. 15. The limbs of the lower member 14 terminate in feet 17 which are embedded in concrete 18 and may have holes to facilitate connection. The central portions 20, 21 are each provided with a central opening 22 through which the nail 24 passes into the nailing strip 12. The chairs are applied to the nailing strips before the latter are placed in position in the floor. As centering means for the nails 24, the conical part of a washer 25, having a flange 28, is adapted to slide in the aperture. The washers 25 are normally out of contact with the apertures 22 but when the upper floor rises, contact between the washer and chair occurs. The lower floor may consist of blocks bonded with concrete or of wood, a cinder filling being provided between the two floors in the latter case. The surface of the nail is roughened or cementcoated. Specification 132,271 is referred to.
