Abstract
The invention concerns a method for mounting a vehicle subassembly, such as, in particular, an instrument panel having a structural frame, method which consists in: assembling beforehand reinforcing means (1) designed to constitute partly the structural frame of said subassembly, and one or more functionally different elements (2), called element to be maintained, by a plurality of flexible linking means (3) enclosing said element(s) to be maintained (2) and said reinforcement means (1), to constitute a ready-to-assemble element (4) of said subassembly: assembling together said ready-to-assemble element and the other elements of the subassembly.
Description
- WO 01/94145 1 2370255
TITLE: Method of fitting a vehicle subassembly, especially such as a dashboard.
The invention relates to a method of fitting a 5 vehicle subassembly, especially such as a dashboard.
However, although more particularly intended for such applications, it could be used for the manufacture of any other type of vehicle subassembly.
At the present time, in order to assemble vehi 10 cle dashboards, it is known first of all to fit their framework then to fix onto it the other elements of the dashboard, such as electrical conductors.
Nevertheless, with such a solution, intricate fitting operations are often encountered, intricate 15 since they have to be carried out under difficult ac-
cess conditions or even blind. They thus increase the cycle times and make attempts at rationalization of production more complicated.
Furthermore, according to the processes used 20 nowadays, the electrical conductors to be integrated into the dashboard are gathered together beforehand into harnesses. These are then fastened to a carrying element by fixing pieces such as staples, cable troughs or otherwise.
25 It can be imagined that such a method of operat ing increases the number of stages and of pieces to be employed, and is consequently detrimental to the cost price of the dashboard.
The object of the present invention is to pro 30 pose a method of fitting a vehicle subassembly, espe cially such as a dashboard, which remedies the above mentioned drawbacks while facilitating fabrication of the said subassembly and rationalizing its production.
Another object of the present invention is to 35 propose a method of fitting a vehicle subassembly, es
pecially such as a dashboard, which makes it possible to reduce the cycle times and the number of pieces to be employed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention 5 will become apparent in the course of the description
which will follow, which is given only by way of indi-
cation and which is not for any limiting purpose.
The invention relates to a method of fitting a vehicle subassembly, especially such as a dashboard, 10 featuring a framework, in which method: - reinforcing means, which are intended to con-
stitute, in part, the framework of the said subassem-
bly, and one or more functionally different elements, called elements to be held, are assembled beforehand by 15 a number of flexible linking means, clamping the said element or elements to be held and the said reinforcing means, so as to constitute a ready-to-fit element of the said subassembly, - the said ready-to-fit element and the other 20 elements of the subassembly are assembled together.
The invention will be better understood on read ing the following description, accompanied by the draw
ings in the annex which form an integral part of it, and among which: 25 Figure 1 is a view taken along a transverse sectional plane illustrating a first ready-to-fit ele ment employed in an example embodiment of the method in accordance with the invention, - Figure 2 is a view taken along a transverse 30 sectional plane illustrating another ready-to-fit ele ment employed in a second example embodiment of the method in accordance with the invention.
The invention relates to a method of fitting a vehicle subassembly, especially such as a dashboard.
However, although more particularly intended for such applications, it could be used for the manufacture of any other type of vehicle subassembly.
As illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, according to 5 the invention, reinforcing means 1, which are intended to constitute, in part, the framework of the said sub-
assembly, and one or more functionally different ele-
ments 2, called elements to be held, are assembled be-
forehand by a number of flexible linking means 3. The 10 latter clamp the said element or elements 2 to be held and the said reinforcing means 1, so as to constitute a ready-to-fit element 4 of the said subassembly.
The said ready-to-fit element and the other ele-
ments of the said subassembly are then assembled to 15 gether.
Thus the assembling of pieces of equipment on an entirely prefabricated framework is avoided, which makes it possible to facilitate and rationalism the op erations as well as to increase their reliability.
20 The said linking means 3 are positioned and/or fixed around the said element or elements 2 to be held and the said reinforcing means 1, for example, by a ro bot. This is understood to mean that these operations are not carried out manually but by one or more ma 25 chines the movements of which are obtained by energy conversion means, especially electric motors.
By way of example, the said element or elements 2 to be held and the said reinforcing means 1 are ar-
ranged side by side within an assembly station. A pro 30 gemmed-control machine is then moved opposite this station, this machine distributing the said linking means 3 and putting them in place so as to clamp the said element or elements 2 to be held and the said re-
inforcing means 1.
The said assembly station consists, for example, of a table along which moves the machine for distribut-
ing linking means 3 and putting them in place.
The latter are, especially, extruded continu 5 ously by virtue of the said machine or supplied, in a given quantity, in the form of refills to be loaded into the said machine, depending on the technology cho-
sen for it.
The said linking means 3 will, if appropriate, 10 be distributed regularly along the said ready-to-fit element 4, designed to extend longitudinally.
The said linking means 3 consist, especially, of ties 5 surrounding the said element or elements 2 to be held and the said reinforcing means 1, at given inter 15 vats, so as to clamp them. These take the form, for ex-
ample, of ties made of thermoplastic materials.
These ties are clamped around the said element or elements 2 to be held and the said reinforcing means 1, especially by relative displacement of the end of 20 one of the halves of the said ties with respect to the other half, starting from the end of the said other half as far as a given point, corresponding to the de sired clamping force for the element or elements 2 to be held against the said reinforcing means 1.
25 The said halves of the cable ties 5 can be fas tened to one another by welding, by mechanical linking, especially by friction, or otherwise.
The said elements 2 to be held consist, for ex ample, of electrical conductors 7, to be gathered to 30 gether into harnesses, against the said reinforcing means 1.
That said, it might also be air ducts which are involved. The said reinforcing means 1 consist, for exam 35 pie, of a rigid crosspiece 6, possibly tubular.
That said, these could also take the form of fixing lugs of the said crosspiece, of fixing lugs of the said subassembly, of air ducts, wherever they ex hibit a sufficiently rigid structure, or of a casing.
5 Naturally, other embodiment, within the scope of the person skilled in the art, could have been envis aged without to any extent departing from the context of the invention.
