Abstract

A filter cover has two circular screens 8 and 9 in between which sits a similar sized circular sheet of absorbent material which acts as a filter 7. The frames operate an open and shut movement with a hinge 6 positioned preferrably near the handle. The screens are releasably secured by a clip or similar device 3 to allow for the filter to be placed and removed as required. Each screen 8, 9 may comprise a mesh and the filter sheet 7 may be paper. The cover may be placed over a frying pan or saucepan.

Description

Filter Cover The invention relates to a kitchen utensil of the type of a lid or cover which may be placed over frying pans or saucepans during frying or simmering.

The splatter screen or splatter guard is the nearest object in existence; it is a Filtersingle circular screen which is placed on frying pans to prevent fat splattering during frying. However this object does not fulfill its purpose as some splatters do escape through the screen onto the cooking area.

An object of this invention is to provide a double screen cover which incoporates a filter component. This will cut out the splattering and also trap fat or grease particles from being emitted in the air thus decreasing the level of grime build-up in the kitchen.

Accordingly, this invention provides a cover comprising of two circular screens in between which sits a circular sheet of tissue paper or similar material which acts as the filter.

Preferably the two screens are attached together with a spring located on the frame to act as a hinge and also include a clip to secure them together thus allowing new and old filters to be inserted and removed respectively. Each screen's surface area may be made of fine stainless steel, aluminium or other metal mesh; the frame, handle and clip may be made of stainless steel, polished aluminium, metal, plastics or from a combination of these materials.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which : Figure 1 shows the top view of the whole filter cover and preferred positions of the spring and clip; Figure 2 illustrates the filter cover open with the filter lodged in between the two screens.

Referring to the drawing Fig. 1 the filter cover comprises two circular frames 1 and 4 each having a fine mesh surface 2 forming the screens.

In order to allow for the two screens to open and shut a spring or other device 6 is used to act as a hinge preferably located by the handle 5.

The screens are releasably secured at the frames by, a clip or any similar device 3 located on the frame. This allows for the filter to be inserted and removed.

The filter 7 shown in Fig. 2 simply sits in between the two screens 8 and 9.

Claims

Claims 1. A cover for a kitchen utensil or the like, wherein said cover comprises means for receiving a disposable filter element.
2. A cover as claimed in claim 1, wherein said cover comprises a first portion and a second portion, and wherein in use a disposable filter element is provided between said first and second portions.
3. A cover as claimed in claim 2, wherein said first and second portions are hinged.
4. A cover as claimed in claim 2 or 3, wherein said first and second portions are releasably secured.
5. A cover as claimed in claim 4, further comprising a clip or other locking mechanism for securing said first and second portions.
6. A cover as claimed in any of claims 2-5, wherein said first and second portions are generally circular in shape.
7. A cover as claimed in any of claims 2-6, wherein at least one of said first and second portions is provided with a mesh, slits or other forms of openings.
8. A cover as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein said cover is arranged and adapted to fit a frying pan or the like.
9. A cover as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein said cover is arranged and adapted to fit a saucepan or the like.
10. A cover for a frying pan or a saucepan, comprising : a first portion having a plurality of openings ; a second portion having a plurality of openings ; means for securing and releasing said first and second portions ; means for receiving within said first and second portions a filter element.
11. A cover for a kitchen utensil, comprising: a first portion having at least one opening ; a second portion ; a hinge connecting said first and second portions ; a filter element provided between said first and second portions.
12. A cover for a frying pan, comprising: a generally circular mesh; and means for receiving a filter element.
13. A frying pan or saucepan cover, comprising: two generally circular cover portions, said cover portions being cooperatively arranged to clamp therebetween a disposable filter element.
14. A cover for a kitchen utensil, comprising: a handle ; and a frame adapted and arranged to receive and secure a disposable filter element.
15. A disposable filter element for use in a cover as claimed in any of claims 1-14.
16. A cover as claimed in any of claims 1-14 in combination with a disposable filter element.
17. A filter for a kitchen product, comprising: a surface having a plurality of openings for allowing airborne particles such as steam and fat to

pass therethrough ; and a removable filter element for entrapping said airborne particles.
18. A filter for entrapping steam and/or grease and/or fat emitted from a kitchen product such as a frying pan, comprising : two generally or substantially circular cover portions, said cover portions being hinged or clipped together and arranged to receive therebetween a removable filter element for entrapping steam and/or grease and/or fat.
19. A filter for entrapping airborne particles emitted from a frying pan or the like during frying, comprising: two mesh portions comprising a spring to act as a hinge and a clip to secure said portions together; a removable filter element arranged, in use, between said mesh portions; and a handle.
20. A filter as claimed in claim 19, wherein at least one mesh portion is made from metal and/or plastics.
21. A filter as claimed in claim 19 or 20, wherein said handle is made from metal and/or plastics.
22. A filter for entrapping airborne particles emitted from a kitchen utensil during cooking, comprising: two circular screens having a plurality of openings, said screens being securable to one another in a first mode and releasable in a second mode; and a removable filter element arranged, in use, between said screens.
23. A filter-cover for preventing the emission of fat from a frying pan, comprising two mesh portions having arranged therebetween a disposable filter element.
