Abstract

236,863. Lawson, C. G. March 27, 1925. Illuminating, means for.-Comprises a casing 1 with a lamp socket 6 having a lamp 7 adapted to project a beam of light edgewise through a transparent plate or cover glass 5 beneath which are arranged the diaLs to be illuminated. The plate 5 is provided with a packing ring 10 which is apertured to admit the light and serves as a means to prevent dispersion thereof. The emission of light at the dial positions is effected by breaking the optical continuity of the surface by means of grooves or projections, by roughening the surface, or by the application of a coat of paint or other adhesive matter having the property of causing dispersion of light. The size and shape of the patches of paint as shown at 12, 13, 14 is determined by trial and the patches are screened by a mask 15 of opaque material with openings corresponding in position and form to the dials. A second cover glass may be provided to protect the plate 5 the whole being held in position by a bezel 8 that covers the lamp pocket.
