Abstract

An umbrella holder, that has three sections, 5,6 and 7, with sections 6 and 7 having telescopic features so that the desired height can be achieved by retracting or expanding the length of sections 6 and 7. A base clamp 1 can be securely attached onto a wheeled unit or framework and a ball and socket joint 3 allows the angle of the telescopic arm to be adjusted. A further ball and socket joint 9 houses a clamp 12 that can be fixed at an angle by Wing nut 10 and acts as a holder in which an umbrella can be placed and secured.

Description

ADJUSTABLE TELESCOPIC UMBRELLA HOLDER This invention relates to a telescopic arm that attaches onto a mobile unit or framework and extends vertically, in order to house an umbrella.
Umbrellas are well known for granting protection for oneself against elements such as rain and snow. However, problematic situations occur when a person is required to hold an umbrella and have their hands free, for example, to steer a child's pushchair or wheeled shopping cart, which requires the use of both hands. This invention would also be of benefit to a disabled person, who cannot hold an umbrella and negotiate a wheelchair, or has limited or no use of their hands. The invention allows'hands free'protection, allowing a person to go about their business, regardless of the weather.
The object of this invention is to allow a person unrestricted protection from the weather, whilst allowing both hands to be free, for example to operate a wheeled unit or framework.
The Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder consists of a clamp with a universal fitting and grip, which attaches onto a wheeled unit or framework. An angle adjusting facility in the form of a ball and socket, sits vertically from the clamp, upon which extends the arm.
The arm has telescopic features consisting of three tubes slightly varying in width, allowing the tubes to retract and fit inside each other. The telescopic arm can be extended or retracted to reach the required height of the person and is secured by levers. Situated at the top of the telescopic arm is a moulded ball and socket joint which can be rotated and fixed to a desired angle. The rotating socket houses the base of the umbrella, allowing the umbrella to be positioned to face forwards, backwards or sideways to the telescopic arm, wheeled unit or framework. The angle can be locked using a wing nut device.
The Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder is made of plastic and metal materials, with a rubber lining within the interior of the base clamp and rotating socket, allowing grip and to prevent scratching to the surface of the wheeled unit or framework. The complete unit can easily be retracted into the base clamp and the clamp, then released from the wheeled unit or framework, allowing the Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder to be compactly stored.
A specific embodiment of the invention titled Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder, will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the complete Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder, with a side view of clamp 12.
Figure 2 shows the fully operational Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder attached to the wheeled unit or framework, with an umbrella securely positioned with the top clamp 12.
Referring to the drawing, the Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder comprises a base clamp 1, which attaches around and onto a wheeled unit or framework. Wing nut 2 acts as a tightening device and enables the ball and socket joint 3 to vary the angle of the telescopic arm.
The first telescopic section 4 acts as the main body of the telescopic arm, into which fits section 5. Telescopic section 6 fits into telescopic section 5 and enables the Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder to become a compact unit when not in use.
The height of the telescopic arm can be adjusted and secured by lever 7 and lever 8. The base of the umbrella is inserted into clamp 12, whilst Wing nut11 tightens clamp 12, holding the base of the umbrella securely. Ball and socket joint 9 allows the umbrella to be positioned at the desired angle. The angle of the umbrella can then be secured by tightening Wing nut 10.
Figure 2 illustrates the fully operational Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder. The drawing shows clamp 1 attached onto a wheeled unit or framework 13. Whilst the function of clamp 12 holding the base of an umbrella 14 is also illustrated.

Claims (7)

  1. Claims 1 An Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder comprising a base clamp, the body being three hollow tube sections which can extend or retract in telescopic motion and a clamp situated at the top of the telescopic section, which grips the base of an inserted umbrella.
  2. 2 An Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the telescopic sections can be adjusted to reach the desired height and therein the height fixed by locking levers situated on the telescopic sections.
  3. 3 An Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the base clamp can open and close to various widths, then be placed onto a wheeled unit or framework and secured by using a turning device that causes the clamp to close around the desired framework.
  4. 4 An Adjustable as claimed in Claim 3 wherein a ball and socket joint allows the telescopic unit to be vertically directed regardless of the angle and position in which the base clamp is situated and secured.
  5. 5 An Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder as claimed in Claim 3 or Claim 4 wherein a ball and socket joint is situated underneath the clamp that houses the umbrella base and allows the umbrella to be positioned and the angle quickly secured to face backwards, forwards or sideways at any angle to the telescopic arm.
  6. 6 An Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the complete unit can be released from a wheeled unit or framework and therein the telescopic sections retract to fit into each other therefore reducing the size of the Adjustable Telescopic Umbrelle Holder for storage when not in use.
  7. 7 An Adjustable Telescopic Umbrella Holder substantially as described herein with reference to Figure 1 and Figure 2 of the accompanying drawings.
