Abstract

An umbrella 11 with a composite rigid/flexible shaft 12, 13 which is adjustable to allow optimum protection from sun or rain, has a clamp 14 to attach it to a pram or buggy. <IMAGE>

Description

PRAN/BUGGY UMBRELLA This invention relates to an Umbrella for attachment to a child Pram/ Buggy.
Umbrella's are used for shielding persons from the sun or rain, and consist of a circular screen of material raised on radial ribs attached to a central shaft.
Umbrella's are normally used in a hand-held mode, although this operation becomes difficult when pushing a Pram or Buggy.
According to the present invention there is provided an Umbrella arrangement with adjustable shaft, complete with devices for attaching to a Pram or Buggy.
Figure 1 shows the Umbrella opened and complete.
Figure 2 details the clamp which attaches to the Pram or Buggy.
Referring to the drawing the umbrella comprises a material screen 10 supported by radial ribs 11, attached to a central shaft. The central shaft is of composite construction, consisting of one rigid shaft 12, which may be provided with a telescopic arrangement (not shown) and a flexible section 13. The flexible section 13 fits into a clamp 14.
The radial ribs 11 slide in the shaft 12 and facilitate raising and lowering of the material screen. The flexible section of the shaft 13 allow the umbrella to be adjusted to provide optimum protection from sun or rain. Additional adjustment is provided by the clamp 14.
Attachment to the Pram or Buggy is provided by clamp 14 which has a contoured clamp allowing fitment to different sizes of Pram/ Buggy frame, the clamp may be provided with a swivel arrangement (not shown), to allow additional adjustment. The clamp is locked into position by wing-nut 15.

Claims (3)

1 A child pram/buggy umbrella comprising a circular screen of material supported by radial ribs, attached to a composite central shaft, this central shaft comprising one rigid section attached to a flexible section, the lower flexible section fitting into a clamping device, which attaches to the framework of the pram or buggy.
2 An umbrella as claimed in claim 1, with the clamping device containing a swivel arrangement to allow additional adjustment.
3 An umbrella as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, with telescopic movement of the shaft to allow height adjustment of the circular screen.
