Impact pulverizers.-In a pulverizer for fuel comprising a casing with a motor mounted therein and metallic pegs mounted on the casing or rotor, or both, and adapted to pulverize the material by impact, the pegs are fixedly held in position on their supporting part by means of mountings formed of yieldable material which are adapted to yield under abnormal stresses but which are substantially unyielding for normal stresses. The yieldable mountings may comprise resilient metal portions or flanges provided on the pegs. The pegs 41, Figs. 3 and 4, of manganese steel &c. may be cast in flanged metal ferrules 36 which fit in sockets in the supporting plate, and the ferrules, of drawn metal, may be provided with one or more inwardly-projecting ribs or lugs 39 and an inwardly-turned lip 40 at the inner edge. Preferably, the pegs are non- circular in cross-section and wider in one direction than in another, and the socket is preferably larger than the ferrule so that the ferrule is held only by its flange. Fig. 1 shows the pegs applied to a pulverizer of the type described in Specification 175,301. The rotor consists of two plates 30, 31 bolted between a clamping-ring 34 and a flange 32 on a sleeve 33 keyed to the driving- shaft 11, the resilient steel flanges 38 of the ferrules of the pegs 22, 23 being clamped between the plates 30, 31. The ferrules of the pegs 20 on the casing are inserted in holes in a. cheek-plate 50, and the flanges are clamped in place by a locking-plate. 51 secured by set-screws 52, the plates 50, 51 being secured to the inside of the casing walls 14, 15 by screws 53. In a modification in which the peg and ferrule are separately formed, the peg 45, Fig. 6, is formed with a groove 48 and the ferrule 46 with inwardly-projeeting ribs or lugs 47, and Babbit or like metal is run into the space between the peg and the ferrule.
