Abstract

An automotive road safety device comprises a transmitter, receiver and audible warning device. In use the transmitter provides a speed restriction signal to the receiver mounted in a vehicle. The received speed restriction signal is compared with the vehicles speed and an audible warning given if the speed limit is being exceeded. Preferably, the audible warning will increase in volume until such as a time as the vehicle has slowed. The transmitter may be attached to a road sign displaying a speed restriction sign. In an alternative embodiment, the vehicle may use an infra red scanner, cameras or lasers to read the sign.

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> Automotive Road Safety Device. THE DESCRIPTION. The invention applies to all motorised vehicles capable of speeds in excess of 30mph/48kph. that use the public highways. The device, which is incorporated within the vehicle as a complete unit, or partially, (one part being mounted within the area of all road restriction signs) The purpose of such device is designed to deter all drivers of the above vehicles to exceed the speed limits as indicated by the road restriction signs. The invention relates to a device which will record the speed indicated on a road restriction sign and compare that speed with the vehicle speed. The occasion when the vehicle speed is in excess of the road restriction sign, initially, a short duration alarm would sound. If the vehicle continues to exceed the indicated speed, the alarm would then progressively increase in volume continuously until the speed of the vehicle has reduced to the indicated level.

Claims (5)

  1. THE CLAIM. 1. The speed control device comprising of a receiver, transmitter and alarming device is situated within all road vehicles, which registers the speed indicated by the highways road restriction signs.
  2. 2. The said device compares the vehicle speed with the indicated speed of the Road speed restriction sign
  3. 3. In the instance when the vehicle speed, whilst passing a road speed restriction sign, is in excess of the speed restriction sign an initial alarm would sound.
  4. 4. If the speed of the vehicle continued to exceed the required speed, the alarm would then be continuous and progressively increase in volume until the speed was reduced to that required limit.
  5. 5. The transmitting device indicated in (I.) above may be mounted separately in a convenient situation adjacent to the road restriction sign. G. The device as claimed above is designed to deter all drivers of road vehicles from exceeding the prevailing speed limit.speed..
