Fixed-chamber apparatus, controlling passage of air and gases for, and varying quantity measurea in.-Comprises a measuring vessel in which is vertically movable a displacer with means for allowing escape of air from beneath it and so arranged that the displacer may be moved in one direction by the liquid to be measured, and when moved in the reverse direction delivers the quantity admitted to the vessel. Liquid enters the vessel G from a tank T through a filter H<1> and non-return valve H, and is forced by air pressure from a pipe I or hand-pump K through the pipe C and non-return valve D to the measuring vessel A, in which is a piston B whose stroke is limited by an adjustable stop Z, and which has one or more float-valves F allowing air but not liquid to pass through it. The interconnected valves L, M are then operated, the air in the vessel G passes through the pipe M<2> to the vessel A above the piston, and the liquid is forced by air pressure and the weight E to the delivery pipe L<3>. If all the liquid is not required the valve L is actuated to allow the liquid to return to the vessel G through the pipe L<2>. On this movement of the valve a rack R, Fig. 4, which is mounted on a sleeve Q rotatable on the piston rod, is brought into engagement with the pinion W of a counter S in order to measure the liquid returned. An atmospheric valve P, Fig. 1, may be provided to break the vacuum caused when the hand-pump is used to withdraw air from above the piston. The liquid mav be pumped into the measuring vessel instead of using air pressure.
