Abstract
A tool for removing locking wheel nuts or bolts from vehicles, eg for when the original key/socket has been lost, comprises teeth that can be located over the nut to form a tight fit. This tight fit may be achieved with the aid of a drift (see fig 2) and a conventional hammer. A conventional lever bar or air wrench may then be used to undo the nut. Once the nut has been removed, the nut may be extracted from the teeth of the tool using a threaded T-bar (see fig 3) which engages with a thread provided on the tool.
Description
2366532 ANTI-THEFT LOCK NUT REMOVAL TOOL The invention relates to a
special socket that can be used for the removal of locking wheel nuts from vehicles.
When a vehicle is presented to a repairing garage for service or repair if the locking wheel nut or bolt removal socket is missing from the car and the owner has no idea of its whereabouts it is a major problem removing the wheels from the car, without causing any damage or personal injury.
The tool is designed to be fitted over the anti-theft nut or bolt in such a way that it has a very tight fit this allows a conventional lever bar or air wrench to undo it.
The tool is designed to be driven over the nut/bolt with the aid of drift and a conventional hammer. The tools specially designed teeth bite into the nut on 12 points allowing for a perfect grip on the outside of the nut/bolt at this point we have the opportunity to undo it.
When the nut/bolt has successfully been removed, due to the way in which the teeth lock in it is necessary to use the extracting 'IT " bar to free the nut/bolt.
The tool is of a hardened metal construction with specially tempered teeth, there are 12 teeth which bite into the locking nut/bolt. It also has a Y2inch drive at one end to receive the drift. There is a M10 thread cut inside the tool this is to allow for the "T"bar. The drift is also constructed from hardened metal this has a % inch square drive on one end allowing it to be inserted into the end of the tool the "T"bar is made from steel with a M10 thread cut into it.
Figure I shows an external view of the tool body Figure la shows a sectional view of the tool including M10 thread which allows fig3 'IT" bar to be inserted for easy removal of spent nut/bolt Figure 2 shows the drift that is inserted into the end of the tool allowing it to be hit with a hammer, this protects the tool.
Figure 3 shows the 'IT" bar that is screwed into the tool after use helping free the nut/bolt by pushing it out.
Claims (1)
- CLAIMThe invention of 'drives-yer-nuts' has come from being faced with the problem of how to quickly and safely remove locking wheel nuts or bolts from vehicles, when the original key/socket has been lost or misplaced. I have designed the too] in such a way that the sharp teeth will bite into the locking nut/bolt when drifted over them, this then allows for a conventional lever bar or impact wrench to be used. I have also designed the tool in such a way that it is easy to use very safe and simple to remove the spent wheel nut/bolt I am claiming that the way in that my tool is made and used is unique because the way I achieve a good grip over the nut/bolt by forcing the teeth of the tool into the side of the nut/bolt My tool is also unique because it causes very little if any damage to the retaining bolt/nut.
