Abstract

The cartridge comprises a primary reservoir 1 for marking fluid having an outlet 5 at one end. A fluid supply tube 2 is located within the reservoir and connected to the outlet at one end and a secondary reservoir 4 at its other end. When the cartridge is a first orientation (Fig 2) a measured dose of fluid enters the secondary reservoir 4. When the cartridge is in a second, inverted, orientation (Fig 2a) no more than the measured dose within the secondary reservoir 4 can be delivered through the supply tube 2 to the outlet 5. The marking implement may be a marker pen or drawing brush.

Description

1 2363096 Liquid-dispensing container for a marking instrument This
invention relates to a dispensing container for marking fluid for repeated delivery of a measured quantity of liquid, for a marking instrument and particularly, but not exclusively, to a writing pen, including a marker pen and drawing brush.
The invention is particularly but not exclusively useful for dispensing relatively a small quantity, such as 0.00 1 -5 millilitres or more, for use in a marking instrument.
Also this invention for a replaceable cartridge refill for a marking instrument.
A container for use in a marking instrument, the container comprising a primary ir fl reservo or holding marking fluid and having an outlet at one end The supply tube located, in use, within the primary reservoir,. the supply tube being, in use, connected at one end to the outlet and having a secondary reservoir at its other end. Wherein, when the container in the normal position, the marking fluid can enter the secondary reservoir, and wherein, when the container is inverted, the secondary reservoir will hold a quantity of the marking fluid that we needed, and the other marking fluid will go to another direction relies on gravity. In the case of inverted position, the marking fluid which in the secondary reservoir can be delivered through the supply tube by using a manually-operable spray pump, a spring loaded valve mechanism or by squeezing the external container. And continued repeated pressure will not result in any more fluid being dispensed.
The marker instrument comprising an actuator (the nozzle fixer), with the capillary tube which enter inside the felt of the marker instrument as one unit, and fixed tightly to marker instrument, in front of the tail plug of the marker instrument.
The marking fluid may be ink or paint, of any required colour. The diaphragm 3 in fig. 1 which is connected to the supply tube can be pierce by any a sharpened tip to give way to the only fluid ink, which is hold in the secondary reservoir to deliver out for use.
The invention is illustrated by way of examples on the accompanying drawings, in which:
Example 1
Fig. 1 shows a section of the replaceable cartridge refills and the secondary reservoir 4 with the capillary tube 2 and the diaphragm 3; Fig 1 a shows a cross section on the line 11 - 11 that shows in fig. 1; Fig. 2 shows the replaceable cartridge refills in the normal position and the marking fluid enter the secondary reservoir 4; ' Fig. 2a shows the replaceable cartridge refills in the other position after rotated 180 degree and the secondary reservoir 4 holding a quantity of the ink, and the other marking fluid will go to another direction relies on gravity.
Fig. 2b shows a section of the replaceable cartridge and the internal secondary reservoir 4 with the tube 2 in others shape; Fig. 2c shows the cartridge is inverted with a small piece of any absorption material as sponge or felt.
Fig. 3 shows an elevation of the replaceable cartridge with a manuallyoperable spray pump.
Fig 3a shows the replaceable cartridge inserted inside the marker pen.
According to Fig. I when inside the replaceable cartridge refill I ink, and closed with a manually operable spray pump, which causes a sharpened tip 10 of the pump 7 to pierce the diaphragm 3. According to Fig.2 when the cartridge in the normal positions the marking fluid can enter the internal secondary reservoir 4. According to Fig. 2a when the cartridge refill is inverted the secondary reservoir will hold a quantity of marking fluid that we need and the other marking fluid will go to another direction relies on gravity. According to Fig. 3a whereas the replaceable cartridge inside the marker pen, and by pressing in the direction X a subsequent operation of the pump arrangement then dispenses that predetermined, primed, amount of fluid, which in the internal small reservoir 4. And continued repeated pressure will not result in any more fluid being dispensed.
Example 2
As the same of the example 1, but as shows in Fig. 2c the replaceable cartridge comprising a small piece of the felt or sponge 4c, the sponge absorption some of the fluid ink when the cartridge in the normal position as fig. 3. And when the cartridge is rotate 180-degree the sponge will hold some of the marking fluid and the other marking fluid will go to another direction relies on gravity as shows in Fig 2c. A subsequent operation of the pump arrangement then dispenses that predetermined, amount of fluid, which already in the sponge.
Example 3
Fig. 4 shows the dispensing container 21 and the reservoir 24 with the tube 22 and the manually operable spray pump; Fig. 4a shows the section of the dispensing container in the normal position and the marking fluid enters the secondary reservoir 24; Fig. 4b shows the dispensing container 21 inverted and the reservoir 4 holding a quantity of the ink, and the other marking fluid will go to another direction relies on gravity; Fig. 5 shows the actuator 25 (the nozzle fixer), with the capillary tube 31 as one unit, which is a part of the marker pen and the tall plug 26 of the marker pen; Fig. 6 shows a section of the marker pen 35 comprising a section of the actuator 25, the capillary tube 3 1 and the felt 3 0; Fig 7 shows the dispensing container when refilling the marker pen; Referring to Figures 4 to 7, the marker pen 2 comprising an actuator 25, capillary tube 3 1, tail plug 26, felt 30, tip 36 and the body 35. After the tail plug 26 is removed from the marker pen, and inserts the nozzle (upper stem of the spray pump) 28 into the actuator 25, which is a part of the pen 35. In operation, the external surface of the dispensing container 21 can be depressed by a thumb or finger of the user of the pen 35, this being effective to move the dispensing container longitudinally with the pump body 27, relative to the nozzle 28. This movement in the direction X expels air from within the pump 27 so upon release of the external surface 2 1, ink from within the secondary reservoir 24 is sucked tip into the pump 27 through the capillary tube 22. Subsequent depression of the external surface 21 is then effective to dispense the ink from the pump 27 to cause it to be ejected as a spray 23 from the pump nozzle 28, into the felt 30 through the capillary tube 3 1, which is a part of the actuator. The length of the capillary tube 31 is approximately one third of the long of the felt or more, in order to be easy and quickly to distribution the fluid ink through the felt. It is also appreciate that and may require several operation of the external surface 21 so as completely to empty the reservoir 24 and to load the felt 30. Then the tail plug 26 is closed.
Example 3
Fig. 8 shows a section of the secondary reservoir 44 with a supply tube 42, a plastic bottle 40 and the nozzle 48, Fig. 9 shows the secondary reservoir 44, the nozzle 48, which is fixed, tightly to the bottle 40 in the normal position and the cap 46; Fig. 9a shows the bottle 40 inverted and the ink enter the secondary reservoir 44; Fig. 10 shows the complete marker pen 47; Fig. 10a shows how the pen 47 refills by using the bottle 40, and the top part of the pen 43.
Referring to Figures 8 to 10a, the plastic bottle 40 with a screwthreaded neck 50 for a closure cap 46, and comprises a secondary reservoir 44 for holding a marking fluid, with a supply tube 42 and the nozzle 48. According to Fig. 9 the bottle 40 in the normal position full by fluid ink, the secondary reservoir 44 with a supply tube 42 and the nozzle 48, all together are fixed tightly to the bottle 40. In this position the ink will inter the reservoir 44. According to Fig. 9a when the container 40 inverted, the reservoir 44 holding a quantity of the ink, which we need to refill the pen, and the other liquid will go to another direction, relies on gravity. Subsequent according to Fig. I Oa, the plastic bottle 40 is squeezed, as indicated by arrow X to delivered only the ink which in the secondary reservoir 44 through the supply tube 42 as drops 45 to the felt 49 of the pen 47.

Claims (16)

1. A cartridge for use in a marker implement, the cartridge comprising:
a primary reservoir for holding marking fluid and having an outlet at one end; 5 a supply tube located, in use, Within the primary reservoir, the supply tube being, in use, connected at one end to the outlet and having a secondary reservoir at its other end; wherein, when the cartridge is in a first orientation, a measured dose of marking fluid can enter the secondary reservoir, and wherein, when in a second, 10 inverted orientation, no more than the measured dose within the secondary reservoir can be delivered through the supply tube.
2. A container for use in. refilling a marker implement, the container comprising:
a primary reservoir for holding marking fluid and having an outlet at one end; 15 a supply tube located, in use, within the primary reservoir, the supply tube being, in use, connected at one end to the outlet and having a secondary reservoir at its other end, wherein, when the container is in a first orientation, a measured dose of marking fluid can enter the secondary reservoir, and wherein, when in a second, 20 inverted orientation, no more than the measured dose within the secondary reservoir can be delivered through the supply tube.
3. A container according to claim 2, wherein the supply tube is connected, in use, to an actuator within a marker for dispensing the fluid into marking fluid containing means within the marker.
4. A container or cartridge according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the secondary reservoir is cylindrical.

5. A container or cartridge according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the secondary reservoir is conical.
6. A container or cartridge according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the secondary reservoir is formed from an absorbent material such as felt or sponge.
7. A container or cartridge according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein a spray pump is attached to the one end of the supply tube for dispensing the measured dose of marking fluid.

8. A container or cartridge according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein valve means are connected to the one end of the supply tube for dispensing the measured dose of the marking fluid.
9. A container or cartridge according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein a 10 nozzle is connected to the end of the supply tube.
10. A container or cartridge according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein some or all of the measured dose is supplied by squeezing the main reservoir.
11. A marking implement comprising: a marking fluid dispensing means for marking a surface; and a container or cartridge according to any one of the preceding claims.
12. A marking implement according to claim 11, further comprising an actuator for 20 insertion into marking fluid containing means within a marker.
13. A marking implement according to claim 12, wherein the actuator comprises means for engagement with the outlet from the main reservoir and injection means for injecting the marking fluid into the marker.
14. A marking implement according to claim 13, wherein the injection means is a tube.
15. A marking implement according to any one of claims 11 to 14, wherein the 30 cartridge or container is replaceable.
16. A container, cartridge or marking implement, substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
