Abstract

236,174. Kienzle Uhrenfabriken Akt.- Ges. June 28, 1924, [Convention date]. Recording particular operations; number and time of working and output of machines. - In apparatus for registering the operations of an automatic tool machine a coupling or clutch device is provided between the registering mechanism and a continuously rotating part of the machine adapted to be disconnected automatically so as to stop actuation of the registering mechanism when the feed of material to the machine is interrupted. The loss of output duo to failure of feed is registered on a separate counting mechanism and a signal device may be operated when failure occurs. As shown in Fig. 1, the machine 1 supports a mechanism 2 for counting the number of articles turned out and for recording the time of working of the machine. The mechanism is driven by a flexible shaft 3 through a clutch device arranged in a box 4 from a flexible shaft 6 that is operatively connected to the cam-shaft 5 of the machine. The feed mechanism 9 for the work bar 10 is connected by a cord 8 to an arm 7 fixed on a shaft 19 mounted in the box 4. Fig. 3, and upon the forward end of the work bar 10 rests a feeler 12 secured tn a spring controlled bar 13. A collar 15 on the bar 13 engages one arm 16 of a bell-crank lever 16, 17 that is under the control of a spring 18 and is supported by a stud 21 on an arm 20 fixed to the shaft 19. The upper end of the arm 17 carries a pin working in a groove 38 on a clutch member 32 slidably mounted on but rotatable with a shaft 30 connected to the flexible shaft 6. A spring 35 tends to hold the member 32 against a corresponding coupling member 33 that is connected to the flexible shaft 3. A coiled spring 39 bears on the member 33 and tends to pull it in the direction of the arrow so that when the clutch is freed engagement cannot take place until the member 32 has completed a revolution. In the normal working when the work bar is present the arm 7 is reciprocated and the bellcrank rocked until the arm 16 depresses the feeler 12 on to the work bar and thus stop the movement of the arm 17 which has not been moved sufficiently far to disengage the clutch members, the lost motion being taken up by the spring 18 through its engagement with the arm 20. When there is no work present the arm 17 continues its movement by reason of the increased movement permitted to the feeler 12 and thus disengages the clutch to stop the actuation of the registering mechanism. During the additional movement imparted to the feeler 12 a pin 24 on the bar 13 engages an arm 25 actuating a counting mechanism 26 which registers the number of articles that would have been turned out if material had been fed to the machine. The record produced is of the kind shown in Fig. 5, wherein concentric circles represent 0 to 50 articles and radial lines represent a quarter of an hour.
