Abstract

A clip fit system for edges of floor coverings, e.g. of laminate, wood, carpet, vinyl or ceramic, comprises a member attachable to the floor and having an upwardly open elongate channel, which is adapted to receive and hold an upper member with a downwardly depending rib, which may be serrated for better grip. As shown, the upper member may join two floor coverings of equal thickness, of different thickness, or be used as an edge strip.

Description

2361719 CLIP FIT SYSTEM' To finish the fitting of Laminate, Wood, Carpet,
Vinyl and Ceramic floors 1. The invention relates to the finishing or edging of the various types of flooring listed above.
2. There are a number of systems available that are unfortunately flawed for various reasons. This system gets rid of these problems, problems such as:
a) Incorrectly applied fixing screws which stand proud of the surface it is covering b) Once other systems are down they cannot be removed without damaging the floor surface they are covering.
c) Other systems are difficult to fix with regard to the placing of, or insertion of, the Clip Top and need to be pushed into place with the use of excessive force, which results in damaging the exposed surface of the Clip Top.
d) These problems effect the various systems being fixed securely.
3. The object of the invention is to provide a system that is:
a) Easy to fit.
b) When fitted it is secure and safe.
c) Gives options for change, in terms of choice of decor at a later date. Changes that can be applied quickly and easily without damaging the surfaces it covers.
4. The essential features of the invention are:
a) It allows for easy fixing of finishing tops & trims once the floor has been fitted.
b) It allows for the Clip Tops to sit flush with surface of the floor it is covering, without any interference from ill-fitted track. By illfitted track I mean, incorrectly applied fixing screws, or by track that has not been fixed in a straight line.
c) It allows for the Clip Tops to be removed and changed at a later date, without damaging the surface it covers. Changes in &cor often result with a desire to change the colour of Clip Tops.
d) It allows for the clip tops to be pushed into place by hand pressure, and remains secure once fully pushed down to the floor level you are covering.
5. Other important features are:
a) The fitter retains full visibility all through the fitting. He can lay the chosen floor covering and cut and & fix right up to the edge of the track then push the Clip Top into place. The Clip Top overlaps the edge of the floor, and covers any rough edges, this provides a neat and attractive finish.
b) The system is such that it can take both Aluminium and UPVC Clip Tops. The use of UPVC Clip Tops is such that it allows for:
12- i) Hygiene considerations such as kitchens, hospital flooring, whereby it can be cleaned & wiped down without damaging its appearance.
ii) A much improved colour choice when choosing the d6cor within which it will be.
6. The system is made up of 3 profiles which provide the function of 'Clip Tops' together with 2 UPVC tracks into which the Clip-Tops fit.
CLIP TOPS There are 3 types.
a) Cover Cli - Please see attached drawing Ref No CTI. This provides a safe transition between two surfaces of the same level.
b) RalLip Clip - Please see attached drawing Ref No. CT2. This is a reducing strip and accommodates a safe transition from higher to lower level flooring.
c) Square Clip - Please see attached drawing Ref No CT3. This profile is used for perimeter edging, it removes the problem of having to remove and refit the skirting board, once the floor has been laid.
UPVC TRACKS There are 2 types.
a) Double Track - Please see attached drawing Ref No UP 1. This profile is used with Clip Tops Cover Clip Ref No CTI Ramp Clip Ref No CT2 b) Single Trac - Please see attached drawing Ref No UP2. This profile is used with Clip Top Square Clip Ref No CT3 7. There are three very important elements with regard to the design of the profiles. These elements create the essential features outlined in section 4.
Clip Tops - Please see attached drawing Ref Nos CTI / CT2 / CT3 and my comments.
UPVC Tracks - Please see attached drawing Ref Nos UP 1 /UP2 and my comments 8. Please see attached drawing Ref No AS 1 This illustrates how the profiles clip together.

Claims (2)

1. This is a CLIP FIT system with only two adjacent lugs on the plastic track, which allows for the fixing of the clip top flush to the surface it is covering, and also allows for the removal of the clip top, if a change of decor is required at a later date, without damaging the surface it covers. See drawings UPI UP2 CT1 CT2 CT3.
2. This is a CLIP FIT system which provides for fixing holes along the flange, as opposed to the central channel, which in turn allows the clip top to be pushed into place, without interference from badly fitted screw fixings.
