Abstract

236,116. Groves, W. W., (International Motor Co.). Jan. 14, 1925. Resilient shackles; indiarubber and like springs; laminated springs.-A connection between an end of a spring and the frame of a motor vehicle comprises independent curved elements of yielding non-metallic material confined under compression on the upper and lower sides of the spring. The connection is particularly applicable to the relatively free end of the spring, the other or relatively fixed end of which is connected to the frame by a non-metallic connection. Specification 198,653 is referred to in this respect. As shown, the connection comprises rollers f, g of india-rubber &c. confined under compression against the spring d by a housing e, e<1> secured to the frame a. The rollers are preferably caused to move synchronously with the spring, and for this purpose they are formed with serrations f<1>, g<1> engaging with serrations e<2>, e<3> on the casing or serrated plates i, i<1> on the spring, or both. To resist side-sway, the rollers f, g are of truncated double-conical form as shown in Fig. 2, the seats on the housing and spring being correspondingly inclined. In assembling the rollers under compression, distorted portions f<2>, g<2>. Fig. 2, will be formed to constitute cushioning bosses which also resist side-sway.
