Abstract

Precipitating; solids, treating with liquids. - Apparatus for treating solids with liquids, for example for precipitating copper from solutions by means of iron, comprises a rotating or oscillating inclined cylindrical, conical, or double conical container through which the materials to be treated are conveyed continuously, a permanent liquid seal being maintained at both ends of the container. In the form shown, the vessel a is provided with tubular inlet and outlet b, c acting as journals, the inlet b being above the level of the liquid, and the outlet c being provided with a sieve v and preferably with a syphon or with a valve operated automatically by the pressure of the liquid in the vessel. The vessel may be combined with settling vessels and a filter press, the whole being connected by piping so that the separated liquid may be returned to and circulated through the vessel a.
