Abstract

235,849. Esdaile, E. W. June 20, 1924, [Convention date]. Theodolites.-A rotatable head for a tripod &c. stand comprises a screwed cap 15, to which a surveying &c. instrument is secured, provided with a flange 17 and a central depending hollow stem 20 having an enlarged lower end 21 carrying a rotatable horizontal plate, 22, a clamping device comprising two vertically separable collars 3, 4, differentially screwed for operation by a nut 13, being interposed between the flange 17 and plate 22. The lower collar 4 is formed with lugs 7 to which the tripod Ac. legs 5 are hinged and is provided with pins 10 engaging apertures 11 in the upper collar 3 to prevent rotation thereof. A plumb line may be passed through the stem 20. In a modification the collars 3, 4 may be internally differentially screwed for engagement by an externally threaded block. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the cap 15, clamping device 3, 4 &c. may be permanently fixed to the instrument. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
